Next-Gen MINI Cooper JCW Electric Hot-Hatch Spied in Germany

The next-gen MINI Cooper hatch just made its global debut earlier this month, arriving first in an all-electric guise that is set to spearhead the marque’s electromobility adoption plant. Weeks after the all-electric hatch made its debut, a hotter, souped-up John Cooper Works (JCW) version of the next-gen MINI Cooper Electric was recently spotted in the wild with no camouflage drape whatsoever.

Captured by Instagram user @parkedinmuc, the next-gen MINI Cooper Electric JCW was parked beside the street somewhere in the middle of Munich, Germany. From afar, this car seems to look like the non-JCW MINI Cooper Electric, but upon further inspection, you’ll see that this electric hot-hatch gets a slew of JCW touches.

Key highlights include the sporty body kit with wide fenders, sporty front and rear bumper and blacked-out front grille, a new take on MINI JCW’s classic racing stripes, as well as the snazzier double five-spoke wheels it rides on. However, since this is an all-electric model, the MINI Cooper Electric JCW comes without the signature hood vent that has been the Cooper S trademark for the past two decades.

However, the most prominent addition by far is the new massive rear wing mounted at the top of the rear hatch. Finished in the same gloss black as other aero parts, the rear wing also comes draped with JCW emblem, which is also scattered throughout its exterior.

Interior part of the next-gen MINI Cooper Electric

Unfortunately, we didn’t get any glimpse at the interior part of this MINI Cooper Electric JCW, but we kinda expect it to get the same sporty treatment as prior MINI JCW models, including leather-wrapped semi-bucket seats, sportier steering wheel, and a slew of red stitchings throughout the interior. We also expect some modern amenities found on the next-gen MINI Cooper like the new 9.4-inch rounded infotainment display and a head-up display (HUD) unit all will make its way to the JCW hatch’s cabin.

As for now, neither MINI nor BMW Group had announced anything pertaining to the performance specs of the new MINI Cooper Electric JCW. With full electrification on board, we can expect the electric JCW hatch to boast beefier power specs than the current ICE-powered MINI Cooper JCW, which is powered by a 228 HP-rated petrol mill that sends it from nought to 100 KM/H in just over six seconds.

For context, the newly-unveiled MINI Cooper Electric SE variant is powered by a single, front-mounted and-driven (FWD) powertrain setup rated at 214 HP and 330 NM, driving this electric hatch from 0-100 KM/H in 6.7 seconds. Electricity, on the other hand, is provided by a 54.2-kWh battery pack that grants the SE electric hatch with a maximum EV range of 402 KM (WLTP).

Back to the spied MINI Cooper Electric JCW, it remains unclear how this electric hot-hatch ended up somewhere in the middle of Munich, but our best bet is that MINI is conducting a real-world testing for this model. However, we do know that the next-gen MINI Cooper will be produced in BMW Group’s plant in China, as well as the soon-to-be-upgraded MINI Plant Oxford in few years’ time, with the new MINI Countryman EV being the first and only MINI models to be produced in BMW Group’s Leipzig plant.

But regardless of that, we’re sure that many MINI fans will be keen to see this souped-up electric MINI hatch make its global debut, sooner or later…
