Renault Scenic E-Tech Debuts As A Family-Friendly EV SUV
The 2024 Renault Scenic is reborn as an EV SUV for its fifth-gen iteration!
French national automaker Renault has given its family-friendly Scenic model an all-electric guise for its fifth-gen iteration, now known as the Renault Scenic E-Tech. Unveiled at the 2023 IAA Mobility auto show, the new Scenic E-Tech gets the same SUV-fication treatment as the new Espace, as it is no longer a compact MPV like its predecessors.
2024 Renault Scenic E-Tech EV SUV
Visually, the Renault Scenic E-Tech boasts a pretty stylish look to it, featuring the marque’s latest design cues derived from newer models like the Rafale coupe SUV. This is no surprise as the Scenic E-Tech is more or less the same size as the Rafale, measuring 4,470 MM long, 1,864 MM wide, 1,571 MM tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,785 MM.
Similar to Renault’s flagship SUV model, the Scenic E-Tech also gets a fierce-looking front fascia, featuring split LED headlights, special front grille pattern, as well as sharp front bumper design. From the side, the Scenic E-Tech features a traditional boxy SUV silhouette with flushed door handles that grants this EV SUV with better aerodynamics, while the rear gets familiar-looking Y-shaped LED taillights – also derived from the Rafale.
Aside from that, the Scenic E-Tech also rides on snazzy-looking 20-inch wheels with partially-enclosed spoke design – yet another measure Renault took to improve this EV SUV’s aerodynamic performance.
The spicier Renault Scenic E-Tech Esprit Alpine gets a slew of snazzy-looking bits and pieces
For those who are seeking for more stylish bits, the Scenic E-Tech also comes in a special Esprit Alpine version. This souped-up variant adds a slew of stylish elements, including snazzier two-tone wheels, sleeker dark-hued accents, as well as a special Esprit Alpine badge on its front fenders.
Featuring leather-free upholstery and recycle-made body parts, the Scenic E-Tech is one of the marque's most environmentally-friendly model!
On board, the new Scenic E-Tech retains its predecessors’ practicality edge, albeit in a more minimalistic and environmentally-friendly manner. Key highlights include the leather-free uphsoltery material laced around the cabin, the opaqueable panoramic glass roof which is made from 50% waste material, while up to 40% of the car’s body panels are made from recycled aluminium and steel.
In spite of its segment shift, the Scenic E-Tech still houses plenty of cabin and cargo space, albeit in a two-row, five-seater form. Altogether, the cabin space comes with up to 38.7-litre of storage spaces consisting of multiple cup holders, foldable stands for smartphones and tablets, armrest storage spaces, and many more.
Tech amenities are also not too shabby in this EV SUV, as it gets the aptly-named OpenR Link digital cockpit design with dual-screen layout. Hiding beneath the steering wheel is a 12.3-inch one that acts as the driver’s display, while the 12-inch portrait-oriented one houses all of the car’s infotainment features, with over 50 built-in apps like Google Maps available. As standard, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also supported.
The Scenic E-Tech gets the same EV technology as the Nissan Ariya
As for the mechanical bits, the Scenic E-Tech shares the same CMF-EV underpinning with other Renault Group’s EV models like the Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya EV SUV. Coming in two trim levels, the baseline model gets a single electric motor rated at 168 HP (125 kW) and 280 NM, juiced by a 60-kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack sourced from LG. This setup is good for a maximum EV range of 418 KM on the WLTP cycle.
Meanwhile, the flagship Iconic variant gets a peppier single motor setup rated at 215 HP (170 kW) and 300 NM. Juiced by a larger 87-kWh LG-sourced NMC battery pack, the top-specced Scenic E-Tech boasts a maximum EV range of 610 KM (WLTP).
Set to be manufactured at Renault Group’s Douai ElectricCity EV facility in France, the all-new Renault Scenic E-Tech is poised to make its market entry in selected European markets as early as Q1 2024. Pricing details, as well as the model’s availability in other global markets, will all be announced at a later date.
