Volkswagen ID.X Performance EV Concept Arrives with Aggressive Aero

The new Volkswagen ID.X Performance is an aggresive-looking EV concept based on the ID.7 fastback
It seems that there’s no stopping Volkswagen from churning out one concept model after another. Following the unveiling of the ID.GTI concept, the German brand has revealed yet another EV concept, known as the Volkswagen ID.X Performance.
Mind you, this ID.X is more than just a souped-up GTX variant for VW’s ID all-electric lineup, as the car is developed purposely for performance from the get go. While the ID.X Performance uses the ID.7 EV fastback saloon as a basis, this EV concept saloon shares very little in common with the latter in terms of visual, featuring aggressive aero parts that helps to boost its performance.

The ID.X Performance gets a slew of aggresive aero parts, all imbued with GTI-esque red accents
Starting off with the front, the ID.X Performance gets a fierce makeover over the ID.7, featuring a large black front grille and a carbon fibre diffuser with GTI-esque red accents. Meanwhile, this EV concept sports black plastic wheel arches that are connected to the side skirts – both getting the same red accents as the front. Meanwhile, this EV concept also rides 60 MM lower than the ID.7, while rolling on centre-lock 20-inch wheels shod in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 performance tyres.

At its tailgate, the ID.X is equipped with a massive rear spoiler, while the lower rear bumper is donned with prominent carbon fibre rear diffuser – both featuring the same red accents as the rest of the exterior. On the other hand, all of its main lighting units are being kept the same as the ID.7, with both of them featuring a full-width LED bar.

The red-and-black theme continues as we get inside the ID.X Performance, as the cabin is laced with a slew of red accents and stitchings that contrast against the all-black upholstery. In terms of layout, there’s nothing special to highlight here, as the ID.X cabin looks pretty much the same as the ID.7, featuring the same dual-stacked screen layout at the front dash – one for the infotainment system, one for the climate control. Meanwhile, drivers get a smaller digital instrument cluster hiding beneath the red-and-black steering wheel.
With the ID.7 serving as the basis for this souped-up EV concept, the ID.X Performance underpins the same MEB platform as its ‘civilian’ counterpart. Power is derived from a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup that delivers a total system output of 550 HP (411 kW) – a significant boost over the ID.7’s 282 HP-rated drive unit.
Also an improvement over the ID.7 is the ID.X Performance’s maximum charging rate, with VW claiming this EV concept can support over 200 kW of DC fast charging rate. However, the automaker did not reveal any detailed specs regarding the ID.X’s battery capacity and maximum EV range.

Could the ID.X Performance be made into a production model in future's time?
As for now, the newly-unveiled Volkswagen ID.X Performance will stand as a mere showcase of VW’s expertise in making performance EVs, but fans are hopeful that it’ll get the same treatment as the ID.GTI. The German marque, however, did promise last time that its ID models will get a souped-up all-wheel drive GTX variant, with models like the ID.5 already getting in, followed by the new ID.7 GTX in near future’s time.
