Mazda Teases New MX-5 Electric Concept Ahead of JMS Debut

Mazda's latest teaser showcases marque's new concept model. Could this be the rumoured all-electric successor to the MX-5?
Aside from Honda and Nissan, Mazda is also packing a big surprise for its showcase at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show (JMS) 2023, as the marque plans to unveil a new concept car, alongside its newly-revamped model lineup including the refreshed MX-5. Ahead of its debut, the Japanese automaker decided to give us a glimpse of this alleged MX-5 EV successor by publishing its teaser image.

This new concept model boasts close resemblance to the previously-teased Vision Study concept
This single teaser image reveals the rear part of this unnamed concept model. Keen eyes, however, will quickly recognize that this model bears very close resemblance to the Vision Study concept that was previewed late last year. Both models come with this unique dual-crescent-shaped taillights, with an illuminated Mazda lettering placed on the tailgate.

From the press release, Mazda stated that this new concept model is designed to “symbolise the exhibit theme”, making it evident that this is indeed the rumoured MX-5 all-electric successor. However, the automaker was refrained from unveiling more details about this new concept, so at this point we’re just beating around the bush.

Facelifted ND-gen Mazda MX-5 will also make its public appearance at the JMS 2023
As we mentioned earlier, this alleged MX-5 electric concept will be posed alongside the newly-updated MX-5 Miata, which features redesigned LED headlights, upgraded infotainment system, some minor safety features update, and most importantly, a slight power boost. With numerous reports indicating that this will be the last hurrah for the current ND-gen model, it is just rightful for Mazda to pose it alongside its alleged successor in this upcoming motor show.
Aside from the updated Miata and its alleged successor, Mazda’s showcase at the JMS (formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show) this year will also showcase the MX-5 SeDV – a Miata variant that is specifically designed for drivers with disabilities – as well as another concept model derived from the marque’s motorsport venture, the Mazda2 Bio Concept – a racecar version of the marque’s supermini hatch powered by next-gen bio-diesel fuel.
The Japan Mobility Show 2023 is set to open its doors at Tokyo Big Sight later on Oct 28, where we will witness a slew of new concepts and upcoming production models from renowned Japanese marques. For more updates on the JMS 2023, be sure to stay tuned here at Caricarz.com…
