New Subaru WRX TR Arrives with Improved Chassis & Brembo Brakes

The Subaru WRX performance sedan is getting a new top-specced variant known as the Subaru WRX TR. Debuted at the Subiefest in Florida, US this weekend, the new WRX TR is getting all the necessary bells and whistles to make it a true driver’s car, albeit no upgrades were done on its powertrain.
For starters, the WRX TR now rides on an improved chassis, featuring stiffer damper setup with new suspensions and a modified steering rack – all work in-tandem to improve its handling and steering response. This is supplemented by a beefier Brembo brakes setup consisting of six-piston front callipers and two-piston rear ones, larger pads and brake rotors, as well as a bigger master cylinder.
Aside from a much-improved stopping power, said new brake setup also grants drivers with a much more superior brake pedal feel, while the fade has been drastically reduced, even under immense usage.

Aside from getting beefier Brembo brakes, the new WRX TR also rides on snazzier 19-inch alloy wheels
As for the visual update, the new WRX TR now rolls on snazzier 19-inch alloy wheels finished in satin grey, which are shod in sticky Bridgestone Potenza S007 tyres with wider 245/35 profile that promises stellar grip performance in both wet and dry conditions. Surprisingly, the US-bound model misses out on the extreme rear wing we saw on leaked images of the Aussie-spec car.

Recaro bucket seats with 8-way power adjustment also come standard in the WRX TR
Things have also been updated on board, as the new WRX TR comes with sporty, 8-way power-adjustable Recaro bucket seats wrapped in grey-and-black Ultrasuede upholstery with contrasting red stitching. Meanwhile, the sunroof has also been deleted, as a bid to make space for drivers’ helmets, as well as to shed some unnecessary weight out of this sporty sedan.
Moreover, the WRX TR still gets a full-swing of Subaru’s EyeSight active safety suite, which adds ADAS features like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and many more.

The standard WRX's 2.4-litre 'Boxer' mill remains unchanged in the WRX TR
On the powertrain front, the new WRX TR still retains the same 2.4-litre 4-cyl turbocharged ‘Boxer’ engine used on the standard WRX model, delivering 271 HP and 350 NM to boot. Said flat-four mill is mated exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox and the marque’s bespoke all-wheel drive (AWD) setup with active torque vectoring.

As of writing, Subaru has yet to reveal the asking price for the new Subaru WRX TR, with said information to be revealed later this year. While orders are already open in the US market, deliveries for the new WRX TR are expected to commence later in 2024.
Aside from the US market, the new Subaru WRX TR will also make its way to the Australian market, with the Land Down Under folks getting a snazzier car with a massive rear wing at the back. Unfortunately, Subaru has yet to reveal any plans to bring this sporty sedan to other left-hand drive (LHD) markets like Japan and UK, meaning the possibility of seeing the WRX TR in our local market is close to impossible, for now…
