Toll Charges Soon To Drive Up Genting Highlands

Genting Highlands has long been a popular tourist destination due to its diverse array of attractions.
However, the next time one pays a visit, there may be a toll fee.
Rumours have circulated that Genting Highlands will charge a toll fee after photos of what appeared to be a toll gantry began appearing online.

According to Sin Chew Daily, toll booths are being built in two locations: midway up Genting Highlands and near the Gohtong Jaya intersection leading to Batang Kali. However, there has been no word on the fare or when toll collection will begin.
Lingkaran Cekap, a division of Genting Malaysia, which runs the casinos at Resorts World Genting and the SkyWorlds Theme Park, will be in charge of managing the toll, FMT reported.
It was speculated that the toll would cost visitors between RM2.50 and RM3.50 due to a post by Facebook user Vincent Chow.

There has been a lot of backlash online about the toll implementation, with the Pahang state government and Genting Malaysia being singled out for charging tolls despite allegedly poor road conditions.
Some argue that the upkeep and maintenance of Genting Highlands' roads requires significant funding. As a result, the decision was made to install toll booths.

Genting Highlands, a private property owned by Genting Malaysia, has been in charge of road construction and maintenance.Resorts World Genting built and maintains the roads leading to Genting Highlands since the mid-1960s.
A formal statement from Genting Highlands regarding this development is expected to be released soon.
