Volvo EM90 Teased For The Second Time Ahead of Nov 12 Debut

Volvo has yet again teased its upcoming EM90 all-electric minivan, which is due to make its global debut later in Nov 12. This time around, the Swedish marque published a set of teaser images via its official Facebook page, partially unveiling the EV MPV model.

From here, you can see the EM90's Thor hammer-style LED taillights
The first of four said images showcases the rear part of the EM90 hiding behind the curtains, with its most visible part being its LED taillights. It features thick elements that run vertically up the rear pillars as well as dual horizontal LED bars – forming a unique T-shaped lighting signature that mirrors the marque’s signature Thor’s hammer headlights we saw on many existing Volvo models.

Meanwhile, the second image also depicts the EM90 from the rear quarter angle, but this time around you can see almost the whole side profile of the MPV. From here, you can clearly see that the EM90 is a pretty large minivan, which comes to no surprise as it is based on the Geely-owned Zeekr 009 EV MPV.
For reference, the Zeekr 009 measures 5,209 MM long and a wheelbase of 3,205 MM, thus putting both the 009 and EM90 in the same category as the Hyundai Staria and Kia Carnival minivans.

The final two images give us a glimpse of the front part of the EM90, with the first one showing the car’s front-left wheel and the side profile of its LED headlights. However, the second one is more important, as it partially reveals the front fascia of this EV MPV, featuring a chromed front grille design, with the marque’s signature Iron Mark emblem being illuminated.

The Zeekr 009 EV MPV underpins Geely's proprietary SEA platform
As we mentioned earlier, the Volvo EM90 is based on the Zeekr 009 EV MPV, so we can somewhat expect it to share the same powertrain setup. For reference, the Zeekr 009 underpins the same Geely’s SEA platform as the Volvo EX30 and smart #1, enabling it to house a massive 140-kWh Qilin cell-to-pack battery developed by CATL for a maximum EV range of up to 822 KM (CLTC).

Powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrain setup rated at 536 HP (400 kW) and 686 NM, the Zeekr 009 is capable of blasting from nought to 100 KM/H in just 4.5 seconds – not bad for a three-row minivan. Also helping the 009 to attain this stellar performance number is the high-performance air suspension system, which uses a double wishbone setup at the front axle, while the rear gets a multi-link hardware instead.
The all-new Volvo EM90 is poised to make its global debut later in Nov 12 this year, where it will not only be the marque’s first all-electric minivan, but also the first proper MPV model to carry the Iron Mark emblem.
