2026 Volvo EX90 Malaysia: Price, Specs And 5 Things You Need To Know

The Volvo EX90 is not exactly new to Malaysia, but the fully electric flagship SUV launched here today is a substantially different machine from the one that first arrived in 2025.

Now locally assembled in Shah Alam, the evolved 2026 Volvo EX90 brings an upgraded 800-volt electrical architecture, substantially more power, faster DC charging and a new NVIDIA-based core computer. Perhaps just as importantly for Malaysian buyers, it is also cheaper.

The new Volvo EX90 Ultra Twin is priced at RM428,888 without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia, making it RM14,000 less expensive than the previous fully imported EX90, which launched at RM442,888.

1. The Volvo EX90 Is Now CKD In Malaysia, And Cheaper Too

The biggest Malaysia-specific change is where the EX90 now comes from.

Unlike the original model launched here in 2025 as a fully imported unit, the evolved EX90 is assembled locally at Volvo's Shah Alam plant.

That local assembly coincides with a lower asking price of RM428,888 without insurance for the EX90 Ultra Twin.

For comparison, the previous CBU Volvo EX90 Ultra Twin Motor Performance was priced at RM442,888 when it arrived in Malaysia.

That makes the new model RM14,000 cheaper despite receiving some substantial upgrades underneath.

There is also a sizeable launch incentive for early adopters.

The first 100 units booked will receive a RM25,000 cash rebate together with a Volvo Wallbox worth RM3,990.

If the full RM25,000 rebate is applied directly against the recommended selling price, that would bring the effective vehicle price to RM403,888 before insurance. The official recommended selling price, however, remains RM428,888.

2. The Big Upgrade Is An 800V Electrical Architecture

Much of what makes this evolved EX90 different cannot be seen from the outside.

The SUV has moved from the previous model's 400-volt electrical system to a new 800-volt architecture.

Among the most noticeable benefits is considerably faster DC charging.

The evolved EX90 can accept up to 350 kW DC, compared to 250 kW previously, allowing a 10-80% charge to be completed in a claimed 22 minutes when connected to a sufficiently powerful charger.

The outgoing model needed around 30 minutes for the same 10-80% charging window.

Volvo also says the higher-voltage system allows thinner electrical cabling to be used, helping reduce weight, heat generation and copper usage.

3. It Now Has 680 HP, But Range Drops Slightly

The electrical overhaul also brings a sizeable performance boost.

The EX90 Ultra Twin uses two electric motors driving all four wheels, producing a combined 500 kW, or 680 hp, and 870 Nm.

That is a considerable increase in power over the previous Malaysian EX90, which produced 517 hp, although peak torque has actually dropped from 910 Nm.

The extra power helps cut the 0-100 km/h sprint from 4.9 seconds to 4.2 seconds, while top speed remains electronically limited to 180 km/h.

There is another interesting change underneath.

The evolved Malaysian EX90 uses a 106 kWh lithium-ion NCM battery, of which 103 kWh is usable, compared to the previous model's 111 kWh nominal battery.

Its official WLTP range is consequently rated at up to 617 km, slightly below the previous car's 623 km figure.

4. A New NVIDIA Computer Is Running The Show

The evolved EX90 is not just getting quicker at moving and charging. Its computing hardware has also been substantially upgraded.

At its core is an NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based computer, giving the EX90 significantly more processing capability for systems including active safety, vehicle sensors, battery management and other software-controlled functions.

Volvo's Superset technology stack sits on top of that hardware, allowing the car to receive new functions and improvements through over-the-air software updates throughout its lifetime.

The Malaysian EX90 also comes with Volvo's Safe Space Technology, including Pilot Assist, Lane Keeping Aid, Blind Spot Information System with Steer Assist, Collision Avoidance and Mitigation, Intersection Auto Brake, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Emergency Stop Assist.

Its Driver Understanding system uses interior sensors to monitor the driver, while Occupant Sensing uses interior radar to detect occupants inside the cabin.

Park Pilot Assist and a 360-degree camera with 3D view are also standard.

5. It Is Still Very Much Volvo's Flagship Seven-Seater

Despite all the technical changes underneath, Volvo has not radically altered the EX90's exterior design.

It remains a large seven-seat electric SUV with the clean, minimalist Scandinavian styling introduced with the original model.

Inside, however, the Malaysian Ultra Twin gets an extensive equipment list.

Standard kit includes powered and ventilated front seats with massage, four-zone climate control, third-row air-conditioning, laminated windows and an electrochromic panoramic roof that can adjust the amount of light entering the cabin.

Infotainment is handled by a 14.5-inch centre display paired with a 9-inch driver display and head-up display.

Google services are built in, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.

Audio duties are handled by a 25-speaker, 1,610-watt Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity Audio System.

Buyers can choose between ventilated Charcoal Nappa leather with Light Ash decor or ventilated Cardamom Nappa leather with Brown Ash decor.

Five exterior colours are offered: Onyx Black, Sand Dune, Crystal White, Vapour Grey and Mulberry Red.

2026 Volvo EX90 Ultra Twin Specifications

The evolved Volvo EX90 Ultra Twin is available for viewing at authorised Volvo retailers nationwide and is now open for booking.

At RM428,888, it is still firmly premium territory, but the combination of local assembly, a lower list price, dramatically faster charging and substantially more power makes this a far more significant update than its largely unchanged exterior might suggest.

For buyers who were already considering the EX90, the bigger question may no longer be whether the new version is better than the old one. On paper, it clearly is in several important areas.

The more interesting question is whether an effective early-bird price of around RM403,888 is enough to make Volvo's seven-seat electric flagship compelling against an increasingly crowded field of premium EVs in Malaysia.
