360 More Electric Buses Will Hit Singapore Roads From Dec 2024
Following the awarding of contracts worth $166.4 million to two companies in the largest purchase of its kind, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore will add a total of 360 new electric buses to the fleet of public buses, NST reported.
For roughly $50 million, LTA had previously purchased 60 electric buses in 2018 as part of a trial program to test the new technology. There were 5,847 public buses in total as of the end of 2022.
According to Singapore Acting Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat , a significant step toward lowering emissions from the land transportation industry—which presently generates 15% of Singapore's carbon dioxide emissions—is the electrification of the fleet of public buses.

The 360 new electric buses will all be three-door, single-deckers with display screens to give passengers both visual and audible information about their trips.
In addition, the buses will have tire pressure monitoring, anti-fatigue, and collision warning systems installed.
The new electric buses will gradually be introduced for passenger service starting in December 2024, according to the LTA, to replace the diesel buses that are nearing the end of their 17-year legal lifespan. When the 360 buses would be fully deployed was not specified.
