Govt Does Not Undertake EV Chargers Installation

The government does not give any company exclusive rights to build EV charging stations in Malaysia, according to Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
The minister responded in writing, stating that the private sector, which includes businesses involved in the EV ecosystem, is the driving force behind the implementation of EV charging station projects.

The Malaysian electric vehicle (EV) industry is gaining traction as the country embraces sustainable transportation solutions and strives to reduce its carbon footprint.
However, the country's EV revolution is being hampered by significant obstacles, one of which is the regulations imposed by local governments (PBT).

The PBT regulations, which vary by state, cover a wide range of issues, including licencing, charging infrastructure, and parking facilities.
According to The Star, Malaysia aims to provide up to 4,000 EV charging points this year and 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025.
