Loke Announced New Northern KTMB's Commuter Trains, ETS For Gemas-JB Line
During the Budget 2024 debate on Thursday in the Dewan Rakyat, Anthony Loke, the Minister of Transport, announced that the procurement process for new commuter trains and Electric Train Service (ETS) has begun, The Star reported.
The new train services, which are expected to increase frequency along the Southern and Northern lines, will consist of six commuter trains in the KTM Komuter Northern sector and ten new ETS sets for the Gemas-Johor Baru ETS line.
"The procurement of the new ETS sets will serve the southern sector stretching from Gemas (Negeri Sembilan) to Johor Bahru," he said.
Additionally, Loke stated that the ministry had acknowledged the high demand for northbound ETS tickets from Kuala Lumpur and that an increase in frequency was in the works.
In a different statement, Loke mentioned that following the completion of the Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP) in the ensuing three years, the ministry would take into consideration resuming the now-halted Skypark Link with a newer model.
"We will discuss with relevant parties how to operate Skypark Link with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).
"We won't waste the existing track. We will look at another operation model," he said. In June, Loke announced that the Cabinet had approved the redevelopment of Subang’s Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah airport.
