Nine Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) stations in the Klang Valley will be upgraded, with a new station being built in Seremban, Bernama reported.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that all of this is expected to cost RM280 million as part of the Klang Valley Double Tracking Phase 2 (KVDT2) project included KTMB Salak Selatan, Bangi, Pantai Dalam, Seri Setia, Batu Tiga, Padang Java, Klang, Jalan Kastam, and Port Klang.
Work on the project will begin immediately with the construction of the Seremban Sentral Station, which is expected to be completed in 24 months and become a landmark in Seremban, he said.
"This demonstrates the government's commitment to maintaining adequate facilities and infrastructure in our rail system. It is a new direction for the government to make public transportation an important mode.
“I know many people are complaining that KTMB services are slow because the frequency is not high due to the track upgrade project still going on… but this is only for the short term. The work has to be carried out,” the Seremban MP told reporters after launching the Seremban Sentral Station construction project two days ago.
Regarding the RM170 million Seremban Sentral Station construction, Loke stated that the historical heritage of the original station would be preserved and integrated with a unique design based on the Minangkabau concept.
The station is made of glass, has a modern design, and is geared toward net zero emissions. It is touted as a green station because it saves electricity during the day by using sunlight and recycling the energy.
Once completed, it will be surrounded by various commercial facilities and infrastructure, such as the state mosque and shopping malls, making Seremban Sentral the heart of Seremban city development.
The minister added that the KVDT1 project was now at 97% and was expected to be fully completed by the end of April.
