Mazda CX-8 Production Ending In Japan By 2023
In an official statement from Mazda, the automaker stated that the CX-8 will no longer be produced in Japan after the end of 2023. This marks the end of an iconic model that has significantly altered the family SUV market.
The iconic SUV, which debuted in 2017, will be phased out as part of the automaker's strategy to launch a slew of new electrified models between now and 2025, including hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

The decision to discontinue the CX-8 in Japan is likely due to the impending arrival of the CX-80, which will be the latest addition to the carmaker's Large Product group, which has already seen the debut of the CX-60 and CX-90 - the CX-70 is also on the way.
In 2018, two new engine options were added: a 2.5-liter gasoline engine borrowed from the CX-5 and a turbocharged engine borrowed from the CX-9. The Mazda CX-8 received a facelift in 2022, which included a new radiator grille design and other major updates.
However, CKD production of the CX-8 will continue in Malaysia until 2026. The SUV is available in five variants in Malaysia, with prices ranging from RM184,000 to RM220,000.
