SIC Rebrands As Petronas SIC Following New 3-Year Naming Rights Deal
The famed Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has rebranded as 'Petronas Sepang International Circuit' this week.
Besides officially launching this year’s edition of the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia 2023 MotoGP race event earlier this week, the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) also announced its latest rebranding effort. The circuit now goes by its new ‘Petronas Sepang international Circuit’ moniker.
The latter stems for a three-year naming rights deal that the national petroleum consortium inked with the circuit recently. “As one of the industry leaders in motorsports through its engagements in Formula 1 and MotoGP, this shall open doors to new opportunities to host more world class events at our world class venue,” said SIC’s CEO Azhan Shafriman Hanif.
Echoing that sentiment was Petronas’ Senior General Manager of Groups Strategic Relations and Communications, Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz who added, “This partnership goes beyond just naming rights – it signifies our dedication to promoting world-class events, fostering talent development, and showcasing our nation's capabilities on a global stage.”
The rebranding stems from a three-year naming rights deal that Petronas signed on with the circuit.
This is a step up by Petronas following its initial move in signing on as the title sponsors of the annual Malaysian round of the MotoGP world championship since 2022. Apart from which, Petronas also has an active partnership as the official fuel supplier for the sport’s Moto2 and Moto3 support classes that’s set to last well into 2024.
In related news, the upcoming Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia 2023 MotoGP race weekend is set to take place at SIC from 10 Nov to 12 Nov. This marks the Malaysian leg of the MotoGP championship’s historic 30th continuous running in Malaysia (bar a two-year hiatus due to Covid 19 in 2020 and 2021).
