Electric Maserati Quattroporte Replacement Reportedly “On Hold”

It appears that the upcoming electric replacement for the Maserati Quattroporte has been put “on hold”, sources online report. The new flagship sedan, codenamed ‘MS9’, will not enter production by 2025 as initially planned.
Whilst reasons behind this delay are unclear, the famed trident-totting Italian luxury sportscars marque had reportedly informed its suppliers that development of said electric Quattroporte successor has been “frozen until further notice.”

The current sixth-gen Quattroporte model has been in production since 2014. it has been a staple offering from the famed trident marque since 1963.
The firm also added a note for these suppliers late last month that they should “freeze developments relating to the project” as a result of the models paused development. The firm even reportedly sent emails asking suppliers to slash parts costs by 6%.
The firm had put out a similar demand sometime last year where it called for suppliers to cut 5-6% on parts prices. Sources online add that this repeated request hasn’t gone down well amongst suppliers contracted for the MS9 model’s development.

Despite the pause, Maserati reassures that the successor to the Quattroporte will be developed, engineered and produced in Italy still, and that it will adopt electric power.
Despite this halt, Maserati did try to reassure these now irked suppliers that the brand’s future models will be “developed, engineered and produced 100% in Italy, and will adopt electric motors.” In all likelihood, this perhaps stems from a possible rearrangement plans by parent company Stellantis.
Sources online indicate that Stellantis are in discussions to reposition the group’s high-end brands, aiming to avoid any overlap between Maserati and sister marque Alfa Romeo. Stellantis could possibly be trying to ensure enough separation between both brand’s upcoming similar flagship electric sedans.

Sources online believe that the Quattroporte's successor is being paused to clearly separate it from the upcoming Alfa Romeo Giulia (pictured) successor, which will also adopt electric power.

Alfa Romeo's electric Giulia successor will reportedly boast up to 986 HP in high performance Quadrifoglio guise.
The latter Turin-based heritage Italian marque is also set on developing an electric-powered successor to its Giulia sports sedan. This model is set to arrive in 2025 or 2026, and will reportedly boasts up to 986 HP in high performance Quadrifoglio guise.
Similarly, we reported last year that Maserati is set on developing a successor for its signature staple – and aptly-named – Quattroporte flagship sports sedan where it will include an all-electric version. The later will likely harness the same platform and electrified tech from the GranTurismo Folgore.

Presently, Maserati has two Folgore-badged electric models, those being the Grecale (left) and Granturismo (right).
Presently, Maserati only has two Folgore-badged EVs in its stable which, besides the GranTurismo mentioned, includes the Grecale. It also offers a mild-hybrid (MHEV) version of its Levante SUV, which is also set to see its successor feature an all-electric offshoot in the near future.
