Stellantis Aims To Expand Footprint In Malaysia With EV Launch
Stellantis NV, a well-known global automaker, has announced plans to launch its first electric vehicle (EV) in Malaysia by 2024, as well as the launch of additional brands that will have a significant impact on Malaysia's automotive landscape.
In addition to Peugeot and Citroen models, the company is testing models from other brands such as Opel, Alfa Romeo, and DS, paving the way for a broader product range in the country, The Star reported.

By choosing to redefine Bermaz Auto Bhd, its local partner, as a super dealer, Stellantis is able to take direct control of sales and distribution, resulting in a more streamlined and productive organizational structure.
Daniel Gonzalez, COO of Stellantis for general distributors and ASEAN, demonstrated the company's dedication to the Malaysian market by announcing plans to introduce the new Peugeot 408 by April of the following year.
Stellantis also intends to launch Jeep models for the domestic and international markets, indicating a substantial growth in the brand's portfolio.
On the EV front, the cars that will be assembled in Malaysia will be based on the STLA Medium platform, which features vehicles that can travel up to 700 kilometers on a single charge.
Stellantis has also focused on producing battery packs and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) locally. A possible RM5 billion investment in local sourcing might promote economic expansion and job creation.
In order to launch the STLA Medium platform in the ASEAN area, the company also intends to invest more than RM2 billion. Plans for this expansion also call for hiring more engineers, achieving energy autonomy, and raising the production capacity of the Gurun plant.
