MINI Countryman EV Specs Unveiled – Dual-Motor 308 HP, Up to 450 KM Range
MINI has yet again published a new teaser for the upcoming MINI Countryman EV, featuring the vehicle in a new camouflage drape. Unlike the previous teasers, MINI has unveiled the specification details on this first-ever German-made MINI.
The Countryman EV will come in two variants, namely the Countryman E and Countryman SE ALL4. And as its monikers suggest, the former will sport a single motor setup, while the latter will come in a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration instead.
Starting off with the baseline spec, the Countryman E’s single electric motor is rated at 188 HP (140 kW). Meanwhile, the range-topping Countryman SE ALL4 harnesses a dual-motor setup that delivers a total system output of 308 HP (230 kW), which includes a temporary boost function.
Both models will be juiced by the same 64.7-kWh battery pack, offering up to 450 KM of maximum travel range. This claimed figure is not far-off from the 438 KM EV range of its Bavarian twin, the BMW iX1 xDrive 30. For reference, both the new Countryman EV and iX1 ride on the same FAAR EV platform, developed exclusively by BMW Group.
Aside from the two variants mentioned above, MINI also unveiled that the new Countryman EV will come with a high-performance John Cooper Works variant.
As mentioned earlier, this new teaser showcases the MINI Countryman in a new camouflaged wrap that still covers most of the important design elements of the car. In terms of size, this next-gen Countryman has bulked up a bit from the model it replaces, now measuring 130 MM longer and 60 MM taller. Elsewhere, the new Countryman can also be seen riding on new cast light-alloy wheels which are made from up to 70% recycled aluminium.
The recycling theme continues on board the new Countryman, as the cabin is now primed with recycled materials for the floor mats, steering wheel, headliner and dashboard. This effort is part of the marque’s plan to make the Countryman EV’s production more sustainable than other MINI models, so much so they even plan to assemble it in BMW Group’s Leipzig plan – one of the most sustainable automotive facilities in the world.
Apart from the EV models, the next-gen Countryman will also be available in fossil-powered variants, albeit primed with partial electrification. These ICE models reportedly will use either the 1.5-litre 3-cyl mill or the bigger 2.0-litre 4-cyl engine, both mated with a 48-Volt mild hybrid (MHEV) system.
The next-gen MINI Countryman EV is poised to spearhead the marque’s effort to transition into a full-fledged EV maker, followed by a slew of other EV models. This includes the MINI Aceman EV, which MINI unveils will also come in two variants, juiced by either a 40-kWh or 54-kWh battery pack. Apart from that, there will also be a new MINI Cooper EV model.
