New Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept Previews Future Electric Hot-Hatch

Volkswagen has an ace up its sleeves at the ongoing IAA Mobility 2023 show (or Munich Motor Show 2023), as the German automotive giant unveils its latest concept EV model, cordially known as the all-new Volkswagen ID. GTI.
As the first all-electric model to don the iconic GTI moniker, the ID. GTI truly does not disappoint both hardcore petrolheads and EV enthusiasts, as this concept EV bows in with quintessential GTI hot-hatch styling cues, as well as several futuristic features that will surely elevate the iconic nameplate it carries.

The Volkswagen ID. GTI EV hot-hatch concept is the first all-electric GTI model
One can be forgiven for mistaking the ID. GTI with the marque’s previous concept hatch – the VW ID.2all – as VW’s designers actually had the GTI in mind while designing them. As per any GTI models prior, the ID. GTI gets aggressive aero kits consisting of a fierce front bumper with prominent lower air intake and LED foglamps, black-hued side skirts, while the rear gets rugged rear diffuser and roof-mounted spoiler – both finished in dark hue.

Aside from donning the GTI badge on both ends of the car, the ID. GTI also gets some minor black stripe decals that match well with the overall red-and-black theme. Elsewhere, the ID. GTI rides on a stylish set of wheels that draw inspiration from the original Golf Mk1 GTI – yet another homage to the GTI’s rich heritage.

The ID. GTI's cabin also gets several GTI touches, as well as a slew of futuristic tech bits
And fortunately, the throwback theme does not end there, as the ID. GTI’s cabin comes with several ‘retro’ goodness too. Key highlights include the plaid upholstery for the seats, classic gauge display options on its digital instrument cluster, Mk1 GTI-inspired steering wheel design, as well as the iconic golf ball gear knob that now functions as the control dial for the infotainment system.

Moving on to the futuristic bits, the ID. GTI carries over the same dual-screen layout used on the ID.2all, consisting of a smaller 10.9-inch screen for the driver’s display, and a bigger 12.9-inch tablet-style display for the infotainment bit. Aside from that, the cabin also gets an advanced augmented reality (AR) HUD that can project multiple information such as track time to the entire front windscreen.

The ID. GTI will likely underpin VW's new MEB+ EV Platform, similar to the ID.2all
Unfortunately, VW has remained tight-lipped pertaining to the performance specs of the new ID. GTI. For now, the marque only unveils the ID. GTI will get a high-performance single motor setup with an electronic diff lock for the front wheels. Aside from that, drivers will also get a slew of customisation via the GTI Experience control, where they can manually set-up the suspension settings, steering feel, and even create simulated upshifts to mimic the ICE-powered GTIs of the past.

Could this new ID. GTI serves as a basis for the next-gen all-electric Golf GTI?
As things stand, the all-new Volkswagen ID. GTI will stand as a hot-hatch EV concept that aims to showcase the marque’s technological capabilities and advances. As for whether it will be transformed into a production model in future’s time, VW has also remained tight-lipped on that matter.
So folks, what do you think of the all-new Volkswagen ID. GTI concept? Could this be the basis for the new all-electric Golf successor? As always, don't forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below...
