VW Golf Mk8, Arteon & Passat Recalled Over Heat Protection Mat
VPCM has recalled the Golf Mk8, Arteon, and Passat models from 2019 to 2024 over a wrongly-installed heat protection mat.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has issued yet another product recall, this time concerning the heat protection mat on selected Golf Mk8, Passat B8, and Arteon models manufactured from 2019 to 2024.
According to VPCM, the heat protection mat in these affected models was not installed correctly during their production due to an imprecise specification. This wrongly-positioned mat could bring great harm to the car, as it can cause the connection piece to the brake reservoir to melt without any proper heat protection in place.
Once the brake reservoir melted, it could lead to the leakage of the highly-flammable brake fluids, potentially causing a fire.
VPCM further added that one way to check whether your car is affected by this defect is by checking the brake warning light, which will turn on to indicate the low brake fluid level. Even though such a warning did not pop out, VPCM still advised all owners of the affected models to schedule an inspection or book a service via the Volkswagen Cares mobile app as soon as possible.
In worse cases where the connector is damaged due to brake fluid leakage, a brake master cylinder replacement is required on the affected cars. Customers don’t need to fork out their own dough as this replacement job will be done at no cost, and it only takes a couple of hours to complete.
Owners of these affected models are strongly advised to book an inspection or service immediately
Fortunately, there have been no reported cases of fire caused by this wrongly-installed heat protection mat prior to this product recall notice by VPCM. For those who are not sure whether their cars are affected by this product recall or not, you can visit VPCM’s official service action page.
