Local newswire Bernama reports that Datuk Mohamad Madani, the former CEO of the Malaysian Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), was recently charged once in again in court, this time for cheating.

The newswire reports that Datuk Madani is accused of deceiving MARii’s board of directors over a training contract some four years ago. The former exec is accused of inflating prices for said contract up to RM6.4 million when the actual price of which was only valued at RM2.3 million.

If found guilty, the charge falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with a prison term lasting up to 10 years, along with whipping, and a fine. Datuk Madani reportedly entered a plea of not guilty over these charges before being released on bail.

At the request of deputy public prosecutor Law Chin How, Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judge Rozlina Ayob granted the 57-year-old former CEO, who was represented lawyer Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohammed, with a bail amounting to RM300,000. She also set a Feb 29 date for mention.

At the same time, Datuk Madani is also being charged in the Shah Alam Sessions Court for corruption, and he is reportedly set to be charged in the same court sometime today for an offence under Section 403 of the Penal Code for misappropriation of property.

These are but the latest in a string of charges faced by the former MARii CEO for various alleged corrupt practices whilst helming said institute.

Prior to these latest charges, Datuk Madani was also charged in the Sessions Court on May 8 last year for soliciting a RM5 million bribe to aid a company obtain a contract for a training and placement programme.
