Screengrab of the viral dashcam footage captured from inside the ambulance as it was impended by an errant Toyota Camry driver on the MRR2 despite having both its siren and strobe light activated.

Late yesterday afternoon, a dashcam video caught from inside an ambulance went viral on social media. It showed what appeared to be an errant Toyota Camry driver refusing to give way to said ambulance, and that’s despite the latter’s siren blaring, along with its strobe lights flashing.

Based on the time stamp of the dashcam footage, the incident took place late on a rain-soaked Thursday afternoon (Jan 25) along a stretch of the MRR2 near Ampang heading towards Gombak.

The status of the patient ferried by the ambulance at the time is unclear, but the fact both its sirens and lights were activated suggests paramedics on board were in a time crunch.

The incident went viral initially through a 40-sec viral TikTok video, followed by a minute-long version posted on Facebook. Both videos clearly show the errant driver in the Camry intentionally blocking the ambulance and refusing to give way, even switching across lanes to impede said ambulance.

At one point, the ambulance driver even hailed the Camry driver using its built-in loudspeaker demanding to give way, which ultimately failed. It is unclear if the ambulance was able to get a clear path ahead of the Camry, but the act has indeed sparked much irk amongst netizens online.

Now, local daily Harian Metro reports that Ampang Jaya district police – where the incident took place – has begun efforts to track down this errant Camry driver over his rather torrid actions.

“We will trace the owner or the driver of this vehicle for further action,” said Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail to Harian Metro. He adds that the effort to track down this driver comes despite receiving no reports of the incident at the time of writing.

If apprehended, the offending Camry driver could be punished under Section 119 of the Road Transport Act 1987 with a fine not exceeding RM2,000, or be jailed for a period no longer than 6 months.
