Ninth-Gen Toyota Camry Gains ‘Glorious Edition’ Special In China

Announced for the Chinese market recently, the 'Glorious Edition' Toyota Camry (VX80) is now on in China specifically where it is made by the GAC-Toyota venture.
Yes, we at Carz.com.my are still very thrilled with the arrival of the new ninth-generation Toyota Camry D-segment hybrid saloon locally during KLIMS 2024. Moreover, it didn’t take long before principals UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) quietly rolled-out a new non-hybrid variant recently too.
Clearly, what’s now touted as the ‘Last Man Standing’ in its space – at least in Malaysia – deserves to be celebrated with a special, and Toyota’s China-based GAC-Toyota venture has devised arguably very fitting new special variant for which pictured here.

The Glorious Edition special was devised to reignite interest into the hybrid Camry amongst Chinese buyers.
Christened as the ‘Glorious Edition’ – yes, that’s what it’s really called – this special sees GAC-Toyota attempt to reignite interest into the evergreen saloon model nameplate featuring a hybrid powertrain. Clearly, even China is seeing a decline in D-segment saloon sales.
What sets this Chinese market special variant is its exclusive Matte Gray exterior paintwork that’s paired with blacked-out Toyota emblems and Camry model script badge in the tailgate. It also rocks a subtle yet sporty aerokit also finished in black paint and rolls on exclusive 19-inch wheels.

Much of the amenities on board mirror the regular variants sold in China, but the Glorious Edition does gain plush leather upholstery plus a novel cabin ambient lighting suite.
On board, the Camry Glorious Edition sees GAC-Toyota go the extra mile by decking the cabin with genuine leather upholstery, as well as a 64-colour ambient lighting suite projecting striking patterns on the dash and door cards.
Moving to tech and amenities, the Glorious Edition special also gains a Dynaudio Premium Sound system to match up with the dual 12.3-inch digital displays. Other key amenities primed include a heads-up display (HUD), panoramic sunroof, as well as a “Boss Key” seat adjustment buttons.

Mechanically, this Chinese-market special is powered by a familiar 2.0-litre 4-cyl petrol hybrid powertrain package.
Mechanically, the Toyota Camry Glorious Edition harnesses a familiar 2.0-litre 4-cyl petrol hybrid powertrain – the same powering regular variants of the Camry sold in China – that offers combined outputs of 194 HP and 188 NM.
Apart from this partially electrified 2.0-litre option, the Camry model for China is also offered in both combustion (ICE)-only and a peppier hybrid variants, both featuring a 2.5-litre 4-cyl petrol mill at the base of their respective powertrain packages – the same as what we get in both the Hybrid and non-Hybrid twin, in fact.

A comparison between the Chinese market Glorious Edition special (top) with the 2.5 HEV variant launched at KLIMS 2024 (left) and the recently announced 2.5 V variant (right).
Already on sale in China, the Toyota Camry Glorious Edition commands a starting price of RMB202,800 (approx. RM124,277).
It remains to be seen still if this gloriously-named – all puns intended – special can reignite interest for the Camry amongst Chinese buyers, but it’s arguably a stylish attempt indeed. Would you fancied one or something similar if UMWT offered one? Hit the comments below with you thoughts...
