The Negeri Sembilan state Road Transport Department (JPJ) successfully conducted an undercover operation recently, reports local daily Berita Harian. The ops saw said state’s JPJ officers targeting errant express bus drivers for safety negligence.
According to Negeri Sembilan JPJ state director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf said, said undercover ops conducted in conjunction with the on-going Chinese New Year festivities began on Feb 1 and concluded on Feb 14. Through which, officers detected 64 offences committed by these express bus drivers.
Most were caught for driving in the right lane, of which a total of 12 summonses were issued. Another highly recorded offence were not having a second driver or driving continuously for a journey exceeding 300 KM or traveling for four hours continuously, and a total of 7 summonses were issued for which.
In addition, Hanif also detailed that 2 drivers were summoned for smoking whilst driving, a further 9 drivers received summonses for not maintaining the log book, with 7 from the latter also receiving additional summonses for ignoring traffic signals. Beyond which, 27 summonses were also issued for other offenses.

Hanif adds that through operations as such conducted every festive season, members of the department would disguise themselves as bus passengers to travel across the country to take action against express bus drivers who put passengers' lives at risk.
"This undercover technique posing as a bus passenger proved very effective in detecting mistakes and offenses committed made by drivers. Besides advising them not to overlook passenger safety, there are still some who are stubborn,” added Hanif further to Berita Harian.
Hanif concluded by adding that enforcement action was taken against bus drivers and owners who did not comply with the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Rules under it and the Land Public Transport Act (APAD) 2010.
