First Look: Updated 2024 BYD Atto 3 – 88 kW DCFC, Bigger Screen, New Black Hue

BYD has updated the Atto 3 in RHD markets like Japan and Singapore, featuring new colour, updated equipment, and more.
BYD’s best-selling EV model, the BYD Atto 3, has received a model year update for 2024, featuring a new colourway and some minor equipment updates. This 2024 MY model is set to be introduced in several right-hand drive (RHD) markets, including Japan, Singapore, and possibly Australia and Malaysia, too.

The 2024 MY BYD Atto 3 gets a new Cosmos Black colourway, while riding on better-gripping tyres.
Starting with the exterior, the updated Atto 3 gets a new, limited edition body hue called Cosmos Black. Aside from the usual body panel, this unique hue also sees the silver trims around the car painted black instead, giving the car a sleek, all-black finish. While the car rides on the same 18-inch wheels as prior, they are now shod in new Continental EcoContact 6 tyres with bigger 235/50R18 size, ditching the old Atlas Batman rubber.
Also gone here is the old ‘Build Your Dreams’ lettering at the Atto 3’s tailgate, where it has been replaced with BYD lettering instead, in line with the company’s decision to drop its previous nomenclature.

On board, the 2024 BYD Atto 3 gets a bigger 15.6-inch central infotainment display, replacing the old 12.8-inch unit. Said infotainment still comes with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, while the new software update grants it several new functions like a new proximity alarm sound, the linking of Spotify with the ambient lighting system, a new internet browser, and built-in karaoke apps.

Special to the new Cosmos Black hue is the black-dark blue two-tone interior colourway.
Opting for the special Cosmos Black hue will give you a darker two-tone interior colourway, featuring a mix of dark blue and black upholstery with some contrasting red accents and stitching. Other colours of the 2024 Atto 3 will get the same blue-beige interior colourway as the pre-updated model.

The 2024 MY BYD Atto 3's new 88 kW DCFC rate promises a slightly faster charging time for this EV SUV.
As for the mechanical update, the new 2024 Atto 3 now gets a faster 88 kW DC charging rate as opposed to the prior 80 kW figure. With such a small upgrade, BYD hasn’t bothered to tell us about the reduction in charging time, but nonetheless, it’s a much-welcome addition to the car.
Besides that, the 2024 Atto 3’s battery and power specs remain the same as prior, featuring a single, front-mounted (FWD) electric motor rated at 201 HP (150 kW) and 310 NM in the Japanese market that allows for a 0-100 KM/H sprint finish of 7.3 seconds. Its 60.5-kWh LFP ‘Blade’ battery pack also grants the same WLTP range of 420 KM as before, while the AC charging figure is still capped at 6.6 kW.

The updated 2024 BYD Atto 3 is now available in selected RHD markets like Japan and Singapore, and it is due to arrive in Australia some time later this year. As for our local market, we can expect the 2024 MY Atto 3 to make its way later this year too, considering that Sime Darby Motors is now having a big promotion for the 2023 MY Atto 3.
Featuring rebates and discounts worth up to RM20,000, the 2023 MY BYD Atto 3 is now priced at RM129,800 for the baseline Standard Range model, while the top-spec Extended Range model is now accessibly priced at RM147,800, making it neck-to-neck against its newly-launched segment rival, the Chery Omoda E5.
