Special Registration Numbers Revenue Does Not Benefit MOT

YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook clarified in the Parliament this week that the proceeds from special vehicle number plate sales do not directly benefit the Ministry of Transport.
Instead, all revenue from which, including the substantial RM311.8 million generated in 2023, goes to the Federal Consolidated Fund. Separately, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) recorded revenue of RM5.07 billion in 2023.

The special registration numbers (NPI) which was initiated in 2019, kicked off in 2023 with the M_M serial number. The Prime Minister's announcement for the 2024 Budget outlined plans to set aside a portion of NPI sales to help the less fortunate.
Addressing questions from Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Loke reiterated his statement last month that proceeds from the NPI sales would be utilised by the ministry for various initiatives such as driving licence assistance, helmet subsidies, and FlySISWA subsidies.

Loke further stated that the GOLD registration series last month has generated RM17 million to date, with Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s bid of RM1.5 Million for the GOLD1.
In response to Khoo Poay Tiong's concerns about fraudulent activities involving vehicle registration number sales on social media, Loke urged the public to only use the government's JPJ e-bidding system (JPJeBid) to transact for their desired number and to avoid falling victim to online scams at all costs.
JPJeBid's bidding prices are based on minimum set prices, with main value categories starting at RM20,000, attractive numbers at RM3,000, popular numbers at RM800, and ordinary numbers at RM300.
