During our visit to Chery's Eco Exhibition and Model Showcase in Wuhu, China, we learned that Chery Malaysia is keen to introduce the Tiggo 4 Pro into our market. This new B-segment SUV fighter will reportedly make its market entry later in Q4 this year, following the debut of its bigger sibling, the Tiggo 7 Pro.

Furthermore, of all the models revealed by Chery during its 2022 market re-entry announcement, the Tiggo 4 Pro is the only one that has yet to be released here.

What's more, of the two engine options available in China, Malaysia would get the 1.5-litre 4-cyl Turbo GDI mill rated at 145 HP and 210 NM, which is less peppy than the Omoda 5’s four-pot turbocharged unit. However, unlike the Omoda, which exclusively uses a CVT transmission, the Tiggo 4 will also be offered with a 6-speed DCT unit.

In terms of positioning, the Tiggo 4 Pro will compete against other popular B-segment SUVs such as the Perodua Ativa and Honda WR-V. However, in terms of size, CariCarz.com believes it is more comparable to other ‘B-plus’ segment SUVs like the Proton's X50 and Honda's HR-V. According to Chery, the Tiggo 4 has the potential to be a large volume seller for the brands, therefore careful planning is required before its launch at the end of the year.

When the Tiggo 4 Pro is released later this year, Chery Malaysia will have a presence in almost all SUV classes, with the Tiggo 7 Pro serving as its C-SUV offering and the Tiggo 8 Pro dominating the D-segment SUV market. Not to mention Omoda, which has carved out its own place in the B-SUV market with the Omoda 5 and its all-electric twin, the Omoda E5.

Dimensiom-wise, the Tiggo 4 Pro measures 4,318 mm long, 1,831 mm wide, and 1,665 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,610 mm. This wheelbase in comparison is the same as the Honda HR-V. By size alone, the Tiggo 4 is clearly more capacious than the industry norms for a 'genuine' B-segment SUV in Malaysia like the Ativa and WR-V.

Visually, the Tiggo 4 Pro shares some design elements with its bigger brothers, the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. Key features include a large front grille with Chery's diamond pattern, bright LED headlights, a traditional boxy SUV body layout, and more.

The Tiggo 4 Pro's cabin is fairly well-equipped, as are most Chery vehicles today. Standard technology features include a floating central infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree video view system, and a motorised sunroof. Though we don't know the exact specifications for the Malaysian-bound Tiggo 4 Pro, we can expect practically all of these features to be included.

Although it may appear paradoxical for Chery to debut the Tiggo 4 Pro, which may overlap with the Omoda 5, the Honda WR-V's arrival alongside the existing HR-V, as well as the popularity of the Perodua Ativa, have demonstrated that there is a rising need for subcompact SUVs in our market.

Right Hand Drive variant that is to be launched in Malaysia this year

With the Ativa priced just around RM75,000 and the WR-V starting at RM89,900, how much should Chery price the next Tiggo 4 Pro? Given Chery Malaysia's market penetration strategy thus far, it is safe to claim that the RM80,000 figure is certainly achievable, don't you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
