Dashcam Captures Moment Proton X50 And Honda HR-V ADAS Prevent A Wreck
As you can probably guess, the dashcam video embedded above – which went viral on both TikTok and X (Twitter) – shows a typical situation where modern active driving assistance or ADAS features primed in many cars on sale today effectively work to prevent an even bigger disaster.
Based on the details shared in the post, the incident occurred some time back onthe PLUS Highway stretch near Kuala Muda, Kedah. The vehicles involved here were a black Proton Saga/Iswara, a silver Honda HR-V, and a blue Proton X50.
(UPDATE: This report originally stated that incident occurred recently. However, it seems the video has resurfaced trended once again. Changes have been made to reflect that.)
The cause of the incident is something we’ve seen countless times: an errant motorist reversing down the wrong way into oncoming traffic to enter an exit slip-road that said offending driver in question perhaps had missed.
We can’t stress enough just how blatantly irrational such an act is – it is plain unsafe and, above all, STUPID.

AS a refresher, both the range-topping Proton X50 1.5 TGDi Flagship (left) variant and select higher-end variants of the Honda HR-V (right) crossover come laced with a bevy of semi-autonomous or active driver assistance - known simply as ADAS.
Thankfully, as shown in the video, the silver Honda HR-V that was approaching at speed behind this reversing Saga/Iswara had its forward-collision warning (FCW) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) features triggered and activated.
In turn, this allowed the Honda HR-V to halt itself just short of colliding into the rear of the offending Saga/Iswara mentioned. Whilst all this is happening, both the brake lights and emergency stop signal (hazard lights flashing) automatically lit up.
At the same time, the blue Proton X50, which was also coming down at speed behind the HR-V mentioned, saw its FCW and AEB triggered and activated too. However, despite the user’s in-video captions claiming that the X50 steered itself, we're certain this might not be the case.
As a refresher, the Proton X50 1.5 TGDi Flagship variant, though kitted with full array of ADAS features like the HR-V, does not self-steer when its FCW and AEB systems are triggered. More likely though is the fact that the X50’s driver, likely fuelled by adrenaline, had unconsciously steered just in time.
The latter fact perhaps suggests the X50’s driver may have attended an advanced or safety driving course at least – something like the Volvo Safety Driving Experience event we participated in recently. (Watch our feature video for which below).
Either way, the combination of advanced safety tech and perhaps good driver training prevented an even bigger disaster. And though both the HR-V and X50 in this incident perfectly demonstrated the merits of their ADAS systems, the actions of the X50 driver perhaps also signals the importance of picking up advanced driving skills.
We’ll leave you to express your thoughts of the black Saga/Iswara driver’s actions in the comments below. In the meantime, has this footage perhaps given you a better perspective of ADAS features primed in both the Honda and Proton models mentioned?
