EPMB Inks 10-Year BAIC Vehicle Assembly Deal At Its Melaka Plant
Following an MoU inked in August last year, EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) announced the signing of a Vehicle Assembly Agreement with BAIC International Development Co. Ltd (BAIC), which marks the start of a strategic 10-year manufacturing cooperation.
According to the agreement, EPMB's subsidiary, Peps-JV (Melaka) Sdn Bhd, will partake in the vehicle assembly and production of several BAIC models, beginning with the x55ii and BJ40+. The relationship will also extend to electric vehicle (EV) assembly, which will be implemented later in 2025.
This assembly cooperation will also involve BAIC providing technical support, training, and oversight to ensure that EPMB maintains high quality standards during assembly. Furthermore, BAIC will manage the brand's sales and marketing across ASEAN to increase brand visibility.
According to EPMB, this relationship would demonstrate the group's dedication to innovation, while also highlighting Malaysia's business-friendly climate and competent labour force. By combining EPMB's modern facilities with BAIC's experience, the group hopes to address the demand for BAIC vehicles throughout ASEAN and other international markets.
Encik Hamidon, Executive Chairman of EP Manufacturing Berhad, expressed his delight with the company's growth, highlighting their commitment to profitability and strategic alliances.
This development follows EPMB's recent announcement of a groundbreaking manufacturing facility in Melaka capable of producing up to 30,000 vehicles per year.
