Following last month’s teaser, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) made good on its promise from which today by launching a sleuth of new high-end models that it dubs as its ‘2024 Dream Cars Collection’.
Amongst the new models debuting locally at the Mercedes-Benz NZ Wheels Bangsar showroom earlier today were the facelifted Mercedes-Benz GLS range, the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance super-PHEV limo, the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLE grand tourer, the Mercedes AMG C43, and the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance F1 Edition PHEV supercar.
Notably, all these models form the Mercedes-Benz 'Luxury Like No Other' Showcase that is taking place at the NZ Wheels Bangsar showroom mentioned from today until April 7. There’s plenty to unpack here, so stay tuned to CariCarz.com for further reports of all the models shown today.
We’ll focus on the refreshed third-generation (X167) GLS flagship luxury SUV line first, which was revealed globally about a year ago. Like before, the model continues to see two flavours available locally, those being the GLS 450 4Matic and the ultra-luxurious Maybach GLS 600 4Matic.
As detailed prior, the 2024MY refresh sees the GLS 450 4Matic gaining a mild nip-tuck with revised front and rear fascias.
Up front, the GLS 450 4Matic now rocks a revised front bumper and grille combo. Note the new gloss back-finished exterior trims too.
With the base GLS 450 4Matic, the 2024 model year refresh sees it don mild exterior styling updates via a new front bumper primed with new air inlets, finished in gloss black. The four louvres in the grille are also now finished in Silver Shadow hue instead of chrome.
Elsewhere, the facelift treatment also takes place in the rear, which sees the LED taillights now feature a new signet motif. There’s also two new colourway options available – Sodalite Blue Metallic and Manufaktur Alpine Grey Solid.
Besides the adoption of Mercedes’ adaptive Multibeam LED headlights, the exterior is also treated in AMG Line specification. The latter adds new 22-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels, as well as aluminium-look, illuminated running boards with rubber studs.
New here too are the 22-inc AMG multi-spoke wheels and redesigned LED taillight graphics, the latter now sporting a signet motif.
Changes in the cabin are led by the revised MBUX dual-digital display modules featuring new software with new display graphics, plus a sleuth of newly added functions too.
Key changes have been performed on board as the cabin is now decked out with an updated MBUX dual-digital display module with three selectable graphic motifs. Key software updates here also sees new navigation, Assistance, Service, and Off-Road driving mode displays.
Specifically for the Off-Road driving mode, its display now boasts gradient, lateral inclination, compass, and steering angle readouts, as well as a ‘transparent bonnet’ view that also extends into the 360-degree parking camera view equipped.
The 3.0-litre in-line 6-cyl turbo MHEV powertrain has been given a slight power bump to 381 HP, though torque remains at 500 NM.
Aesthetic changes aside, the GLS 450 4Matic’s powertrain has been improved slightly. The 3.0-litre in-line 6-cyl turbocharged mill with mild-hybrid (MHEV) assist sees peak power raised slightly from 362 HP to 381 HP now, whilst torque remains at 500 NM.
Paired with a 9-speed automatic box and 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD), 0-100 KM/H sprints are done in just 6.1 seconds whilst enroute towards a 250 KM/H V-max.
Beyond which, other key equipment present includes the Airmatic Package, Magic Vision Control, power closing, Guards 360, MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System, Rear Comfort Package Plus, and Active Parking Assist, amongst many others.
Launched too was the refreshed GLS 600 Maybach, which also features mild exterior revisions.
Should the GLS 450 4Matic not tickle your fancy enough, then you might want to give the face-lifted Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic a look instead. Effectively, this is the three-point star’s ultra-lux alternative against things like the Bentley Bentayga.
This opulent SUV sees its refreshed exterior continue to bear hallmark Maybach traits. Highlights include its prominent chrome front grille, 23-inch multispoke forged wheels, the latter being a new update here.
Whilst the 23-inch multi-spoke forged wheels (left) are new in this refresh, it appears the signature and prominent Maybach chrome front grille (right) is retained from before.
On board, the Maybach GLS 600 4Matic sees its cabin gaining new perforated seats that now houses ventilation and heating functions. Much of the cabin can be personalised to a high degree as well.
On board, the Maybach GLS 600 continues to see offer prospects with spacious cabin that can be personalised to an extensive degree. New here though is a novel ambient lighting system that includes an animated projection of the marque’s iconic three-point star emblem.
Another noteworthy change here is the seats, which are perforated to enable the housing of a ventilation and heating system. These are now wrapped in diamond-quilted upholstery instead of standard leather as well.
Under the hood, the Maybach GLS 600 4Matic continues to employ a 4.0-litre V8 turbo MHEV heart, but it now boasts slightly beefed up outputs of 551 HP and 770 NM.
Similarly, the Maybach’s powertrain has also gained mild improvements. It continues to harness a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 MHEV petrol heart, which now outputs slightly higher figures o 551 HP and 770 NM. In turn, this enables this opulent SUV to despatch 0-100 KM/H in just 4.9 seconds.
