Previewed: W206 Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic – Up to 408 PS, CKD Planned
The all-new W206-gen Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic made a surprise appearance at the Mercedes-Benz ‘Luxury Like No Other’ event.
In case you missed it, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) is currently organising a special ‘Luxury Like No Other’ event, where the automaker has debuted several new and updated models in our market. Hidden in the midst of the GLS facelift and AMG S63 E-Performance is the all-new, W206-gen Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic performance saloon.
The W206 C43 uses the same 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged M139I engine found on the A 45 S hot-hatch.
Previewed for the first time ever in Malaysia, the C43 is the souped-up AMG version of the current W206-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class, serving as the model’s entry-level performance variant. No longer harnessing a V6 power plant like its predecessor, the new C43 carries a familiar 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged M139I mill that is paired to a 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) system to deliver a total system output of 408 PS and 500 NM.
Said MHEV setup is paired to both the AMG Speedshift 9-speed automatic gearbox and an AMG performance 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD) system, with the latter featuring a rear-biased torque distribution of 30:70. As a result, the W206 C43 4Matic can hit the 100 KM/H mark in just 4.6 seconds, while its V-Max is electronically capped at 250 KM/H or 265 KM/H with the AMG Driver’s Package included.
Besides the new four-banger mill, the W206 C43 also comes with AMG Ride Control suspension with rear-axle steering, while stopping power is provided by the AMG sports braking system.
On the visual front, the AMG C43 4Matic stood out as the sporty and aggressive version of the W206 C-Class sedan, featuring AMG-specific design cues. This includes the signature ‘Panamericana’ front grille with the AMG emblem on it, AMG quad tailpipes, the new ‘Turbo Electrified’ badge on the front fenders to denote its partially-electrified powertrain setup, and many more. As for the wheels, the C43 comes standard with an 18-inch set, although the demo unit displayed here rolls on optional 19-inch units instead.
On board, the C43 cabin is laced with Artico synthetic leather upholstery lined with some Microcut fibre trims with contrasting red stitching. As expected, standard AMG parts present here include the AMG-badged sporty front seats, AMG Performance steering wheel, AMG-branded floor mats, AMG sports pedals, AMG illuminated door sills, as well as a slew of carbon fibre trims.
As for the cabin tech, the C43 comes standard with a Burmester premium audio system that is hooked up to its portrait-oriented central infotainment unit. Also present here are the digital instrument cluster with a head-up display (HUD), as well as a full-swing of ADAS functions granted by the Driver Assistance Package Plus suite.
The W206-gen Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic will be available as a CKD model for the Malaysian market.
Keep in mind that the all-new W206 Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic hasn’t officially been launched yet, with this first public appearance served as a mere preview of the new performance sedan. Set to be priced below RM500,000, the new C43 will be locally assembled (CKD) at MBM’s Pekan production facility, just like the non-AMG W206 C-Class. More importantly, this CKD effort also makes Malaysia the only country in the world outside of Germany to assemble a full-fledged AMG model.
