The all-new Ferrari 12Cilindri breaks cover as the latest flagship V12 GT model by the Maranello-based marque.
Seven years after making its global debut, the Ferrari 812 Superfast is finally getting a new successor, cordially known as the Ferrari 12Cilindri. Italian for ‘12 cylinders’, this new model will continue the long legacy of Ferrari’s flagship V12-powered GT model, dating all the way back to the legendary Ferrari 166 Inter, the marque’s first ‘true’ grand tourer.
The 12Cilindri gets the improved version of Ferrari's signature 6.5-litre nat-asp V12 mill.
As its name suggests, the new 12Cilindri gets the latest version of Ferrari’s flagship 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 mill. Despite boasting the same system output of 819 HP and 678 NM as its predecessor, this new V12 mill features some modifications that allow it to rev at up to 9,500 RPM.
Part-and-parcel of this upgrade is the adoption of titanium con rods that help reduce 40% of the V12 mill’s rotating mass over the steel ones used on the 812 Superfast. The premium metal list continues as the new V12 mill also features aluminium alloy for all its pistons, as well as diamond-like carbon coating on its steel valve trains that helps to reduce friction and improve the engine’s overall mechanical efficiency.
On top of the improved metallurgy, the new V12 mill also features new software that adjusts the maximum torque available depending on the gear selected. Speaking of gears, the new 12Cilindri comes standard with an 8-speed DCT automatic gearbox that helps to facilitate power delivery to its rear wheels (RWD).
As a result, the new Ferrari 12Cilindri can blast from nought to 100 KM/H in just 2.9 seconds for the Coupe and 2.95 seconds for the Spider model, while the V-Max is capped at 340 KM/H for both variants. For reference, the 12Cilindri Coupe tips the scale at 1,560 KG, while its drop-top twin weighs slightly heavier at 1,620 KG.
More on the mechanical side, the new 12Cilindri comes with the same brake-by-wire system used on both the 296 and SF90 Stradale, while its four-wheel independent steering system is derived from the 812 Competizione. Also helping the 12Cilindri steer better are the Michelin Pilot Sport S5 or the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tyres the car comes with.
The new Ferrari 12Cilindri retains its predecessors' iconic fastback GT body style.
On the visual front, the new Ferrari 12Cilindri continues to sport the same front-engined GT body style as all its predecessors, albeit featuring some distinct design cues that look quite different from other current Ferrari models. At the front, the new GT sports sharp LED headlights with a gloss black element between the lights that reminds us of the old Ferrari 365 Daytona.
Besides its more muscular stance and cleaner lines than the curvaceous 812 Superfast, the new 12Cilindri also sports a slimmer version of the marque’s iconic quad taillight setup, complemented by its aggressive rear diffuser that also houses its quad tailpipes.
Hidden beneath this sleek two-door GT body style are a host of active aero parts, which include the active rear spoiler, several louvres behind the wheels, and three pairs of vortex generators beneath the front bumper.
As for its cabin setup, the new 12Cilindri follows the same trend we’ve seen on other existing Ferrari models, featuring a slew of displays and several dedicated control buttons and switches. Mounted at the centre is the 10.25-inch infotainment display, accompanied by a larger 15.6-inch digital instrument cluster behind its button-studded steering wheel. Both screens are further complemented by a smaller 8.8-inch display mounted on the passenger side of the front dash.
As standard, the cabin is laced with a blend of premium upholstery materials like Alcantara and leather, while also featuring a slew of contrasting red stitches. Topping off the cabin amenities list is the optional 15-speaker Burmester premium audio system, in case you’re tired of listening to the notes from its high-revving V12 mill.
Beyond its native Italian market, we can expect the new Ferrari 12Cilindri to make its way to other international markets in years to come.
The all-new Ferrari 12Cilindri is now available for purchase in its native Italian market, with prices starting at €395,000 (RM2.009 million) for the Coupe and €435,000 (RM2.213 million) for the Spider version. Although no official announcement has been made by Ferrari for now, we can expect to know more about the prices and availability of the new 12Cilindri in other international markets, including ours, in the near future.
