JPJandora Investigation Report On Alleged JPJ Misconduct Ready Says Loke

Transport Minister Anthony Loke says his ministry's investigation papers of the JPJandora Papers alleging misconduct by JPJ officials surrounding classic car plates registration are now ready.
Earlier this week, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said that the JPJ director-general will receive a report from a special team investigating claims made in the JPJandora Papers last year.
More specifically, the investigation centres on the alleged misconduct by the department’s officers in regards to the registration of classic car licence plates. Back in Sept last year, a special task force was appointed by Loke’s Ministry of Transport (MOT) to investigate said claims.
This issue was raised by Loke in a post-cabinet meeting after a Telegram group known as Edisi Siasat alleged the revival and sale of classic cars license plates amounting to hundreds of thousands of Ringgits orchestrated by JPJ officials.
The 'JPJandora Papers', a 28-page document, lists unloaded, registered ownership plates of classic vehicles, including some sold at high prices to individuals or companies alleged to have been performed by select JPJ officials.
Additionally, the document provides information on the total numbers listed by state, with Johor, Perak, and Selangor having the largest numbers, as well as by year since 2007.
According to Loke the registration process for classic number plates needs tightening due to a lack of transparency and detail. “This is because these numbers were previously registered without a transparent and detailed process as they were registered manually back in the ’50s and ’60s, not in a computer system or application like MySikap,” he adds.
Due to this, there will be problems where people tend to believe that a certain number plate is not owned but later it will be reclaimed by the owner. “To ensure that there is no ownership overlap in the future, we will tighten and control the registration process,” affirms Loke. KR
