The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) conducted a massive roadblock operation on the Karak highway last weekend, and their target here were errant car and bike enthusiasts.
The operation reportedly took place on the stretch of the Karak Highway in front of BHP Karak station heading towards Genting Highlands in the early hours of Saturday morning. Said filling station was a popular meet-up spot for the enthusiasts targeted in this operation.
During the operation, several cars and motorbikes were also reportedly seen attempting to circumvent the roadblock by making illegal U-turns and travelling against the flow of traffic. But to their dismay, they saw that the route had been shut by the authorities on both fronts.
The roadblock which was a part of "Operasi Khas Trafik Samseng Jalanan" was led by Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Intelligence Operations head Assistant Superintendent Mohd Rizam Surani.
Besides PDRM, the operation also saw the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) roped in to assist with its execution.
"The objective of the operation is to advocate road safety among highway users. We want to ensure that road users complied with the law, including using vehicles that met proper specifications, following numerous public complaints along the East Coast Highway," said Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) acting director Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar.

During the operation, a total of 28 summonses were issued for a variety of violations, such as driving without a licence, having an expired licence, altering one's exhaust system, failing to display an 'L' sticker, having flashy or illegible number plates and other miscellaneous infractions.
Separately, JPJ enforcers present also ordered 16 vehicles to be inspected and issued 18 summonses. KR
