New BYD Fang Cheng Bao 3 Teased

BYD has released official teaser images of the latest from its Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand called the Bao 3.
Despite wearing camouflage still, we are still given a good idea how the bed Bao 3 will look like when it launches later this year. Unlike the Bao 5, which was showcased locally at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 featuring a super-PHEV powertrain, the new Bao 3 is being developed as a full-electric offering instead.

Presented as a small off-road offering, sources report the Bao 3 to measure 4,600 MM long with a 2,750 wheelbase. However, no details are available regarding its interior and full powertrain specifications. Instead, BYD did confirm that the Bao 3 will have a maximum power output of 310 kW (412HP) from a dual-motor setup.
Bao 3 sports a squared front face with split headlights arrangement similar to the Fang Cheng Bao Super 3 concept car unveiled at the recent Auto China 2024. The Super 3 concept was built based on design cues from the Bao 5, Bao 8, and underpin BYD’s Dual Mode Off-road (DMO) Super Hybrid Platform which boasts multiple innovative features including the Cell to Chassis (CTC) technology.

Other notable features present and expected include an interactive infotainment screen to display the vehicle’s charging status, with customisable display content. With this being an EV, the front facia may also feature a closed-up design with the rear offered in two styles: one with a full-sized spare tire and another with an external small container.
Based on the images we can also confidently say that the Bao 3 will feature a slightly sloping roof design with luggage racks and hidden door handles.

The Bao 3, which many have likened its appearance to the Stormtroopers from Star Wars, is expected to be priced starting at RMB220,000 (approx. RM143,000).
According to CarNewsChina, as of April 2024, Fang Cheng Bao has sold 2,110 vehicles, bringing its total sales number for this year to 13,173 vehicles. It is also understood that BYD hasn’t set a specific sales target in 2024 for its Fang Cheng Bao premium marque.

The Bao 3 is set to be positioned as an entry-level model and the third in the Fang Cheng Bao line-up. Based on the camouflaged unit pictured, expect three colour options to be offered - red, blue and yellow.
