Despite a 'softer' TIV forecast and even a one-week production halt, national carmaker Proton had a productive month in June 2024 in terms of sales.

National carmaker Proton revealed its June 2024 sales figures earlier today via a press release issued earlier today. Despite what it describes as a ‘soft’ month in terms of total industry volume (TIV) and a planned one-week production halt, the automaker shifted a steady 10,999 units in total.

For June 2024, Proton had forecasted a TIV sales of just 57,700 units – softer than any month of this year and lower than the previous low point of April 2024. The national carmaker also experienced a one-week halt in production due to ‘scheduled operations improvement activities’.

With 10,999 units shifted in June 2024, Proton's total first half (1H) sales figure now reads at 73,696 units. This places Proton at No 2 in the local market with a 19.1% market share.

Nevertheless, the figures charted in June brought Proton’s 2024 first half (1H) sales total to 73,696 units. In turn, this saw Proton achieve a 19.1% market share figure and retain its position at No 2 in the local market’s sales table.

June also proved to be a productive month for Proton on other fronts, and this was evident through its efforts at launching its e.MAS EV brand. The same month also saw Proton roll-out its record 5 millionth vehicle unit, followed by the official launch of the enhanced 2024 Proton X50 RC.

Other models like the S70 and X90 also fared respectable well in June 2024 with 1,440 units and 248 units shifted respectively.

Speaking of the X50, Proton noted that its popular B-segment compact crossover SUV offering remains popular and high-demand amongst. Said model returned to the top as the segment’s best-seller with 1,711 units shifted in June.

In light of which, Proton is set to ramp up the X50 RC’s production in the coming months thanks to the operational improvement efforts mentioned. Another key driver for Proton was its S70. It continues to lead the C-segment sedan marketspace with 1,440 units sold in June.

The evergreen Proton Saga however remains as Proton's top-selling model with a monthly average of 5,800 units shifted. A total of 5,441 units were shifted in June 2024 alone, bringing its YTD sales total to 34,838 units.

Overall though, both models still pale in contrast to the evergreen Proton Saga. Said affordable four-door offering continues to be Proton’s leading model in terms of sales with 5,441 units sold in June, and its year-to-date (YTD) sales total raised to 34,838 units.

With a monthly sales average of over 5,800 units, the Saga also continues to be one of Malaysia’s best-selling cars. Here’s a proper breakdown of Proton's June 2024 sales across the board:

“We are pleased to see our recent launch of the 2024 Proton X50 was met with strong demand from the market. The model remains as the best option for those looking for a B-segment SUV and we expect a similar reaction when we unveil the heavily revised 2025 Proton X70,” said deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah.
