BMW Has Sold More EVs in Europe Than Tesla

BMW has overtaken Tesla in Europe for total EV sales, with a total of 14,869 units delivered in July 2024.
BMW has taken the top spot for EV sales in Europe, overtaking EV giant Tesla for the first time in the process. In July 2024, the Bavarian automaker shipped a total of 14,869 BEVs, marking a significant increase in its year-on-year (YOY) sales volume by 35% compared to last year.

Despite losing the top sales spot, Tesla retained its crown for the best-selling EV model in Europe, with the American automaker delivering 9,544 units of the Model Y EV SUV in July 2024 alone. Trailing the Model Y closely in second place is the new Volvo EX30 compact EV SUV, followed by the Volkswagen ID.4 and Tesla Model 3 in third and fourth.

Despite BMW claiming top spot for EV sales in Europe, the total BEV sales on the continent dipped by 6% last month, with a total of 139,300 EVs registered in July 2024, thus reducing the market share to 13.5%. According to the data published by JATO Dynamics, Europe saw 1.03 million vehicle sales in July 2024, marking a 2% rise from the previous year.
In terms of total sales by brand, Volkswagen takes the top spot as the overall market leader for total vehicle sales in July 2024, with 108,959 units delivered, followed by Toyota at 75,338 units and BMW at 64,012 units.

While SUVs still dominated the European market last month with 54% of market share, the Dacia Sandero hatchback remains the top-selling car in Europe, with a total of 22,400 units sold in July 2024. The popular hatchback is followed by the subcompact SUV duo of the Volkswagen T-Roc and Toyota Yaris Cross.
