Merdeka Day Parade – Public Urged to Use Public Transport
Those attending the 67th Merdeka Day parade are advised to take public transportation due to multiple road closures around Putrajaya.
Members of the public who are planning to attend the upcoming 67th Merdeka Day parade to be held in Putrajaya are advised to take public transportations, according to Putrajaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Aidi Sham Mohamed.
This is because some of the main roads heading to the core island will be closed for traffic from 6 PM Friday, August 30. The Putrajaya police chief also advised those who are attending or participating in the parade to come early and always prioritise their safety and abide by all the rules.
To assist with public safety during the parade and assist with the traffic movement, the Putrajaya police district has deployed a total of 1,998 personnel, including 260 traffic police officers.
"At 5am on Saturday, 10 main roads to Putrajaya will be closed. For those attending the celebrations, please come early. I ask for the cooperation of the public to obey the rules and stay vigilant for the safety of their families,” the Putrajaya police chief told the New Straits Times.
From tomorrow until Saturday (Aug 31), a total of 10 main roads around Putrajaya will be closed from 7 PM until the Merdeka Day celebrations conclude. The affected roads are Persiaran Barat and Lebuh Sentosa (towards Lebuh Saujana), Lebuh Sentosa and Jalan Presint 8 (towards Lebuh Wawasan), Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah heading to Laman Perdana, Jalan Presint 18 (towards Lebuh Bestari), Jalan Presint 18, Lebuh Setia and Lebuh Saujana (towards Jalan Tun Hussein), and Jalan Presint 5 (towards Lebuh Gemilang Perdana).
Complimentary shuttle buses will be provided for members of the public heading for the Merdeka Day parade.
To accommodate for this road closure, both Putrajaya Corporation and Prasarana will provide free shuttle services comprising 80 buses for free, where they will be running every 15 minutes. These complimentary shuttle services will be located at several key locations, including the Putrajaya MRT station, PICC lobby, Botanic Garden, and Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah roundabout.
On top of the free bus services, water taxis will also be available for public use at five checkpoints – Monumen, Anjung Floria, Kelab Tasik Putrajaya, Ayer 8, and Marina Putrajaya.
