Negeri Sembilan Stops Free Bus Service For Seremban, Nilai, Jempol
Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun announced that the free bus service provided by the Negeri Sembilan government for the Seremban, Jempol, and Nilai routes was discontinued on June 1 owing to a lack of public interest and that it was replaced by the myBAS service.
“We have been operating the free bus service for a long time, but the response has been less than encouraging. Most of the users were foreign nationals, not locals.
“Since we now have the myBAS service, which is a public bus service covering the same routes across all areas and districts in the state, we feel that the free bus service is no longer necessary”, he said.
The myBAS service covered the same routes from villages to districts and provided comparable benefits, such as free rides for elderly, disabled, and school-age individuals. According to Bernama, there were roughly 90 myBAS buses available, covering every district in the state.
According to Aminuddin, the public may continue to utilize this bus service in accordance with the planned routes as usual. But the state government will give it another look in the future if there is a lot of demand to bring back the free bus service.
For the record, the state government launched the free bus service that covers routes in Seremban, Nilai, and Jempol on January 21, 2020. The service runs every hour from 6.30 am to 5:30 pm. The service, which is the first of its kind in the state, aims to provide free transportation while also encouraging people to use public transportation and reducing the burden on the less fortunate. It may also help to reduce the use of private vehicles, which contribute to traffic congestion and environmental pollution.
