The Road Transport Department (JPJ) inspected a total of 19,456 express and tour buses across the country as part of a comprehensive safety operation from July 2 to July 31.
According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the checks resulted in action being taken against 667 buses (417 tour buses and 250 express buses) for a variety of violations. In addition, 14 buses (12 tour and one express) were confiscated. Aside from vehicle inspections, JPJ collaborated with the national anti-drug agency (AADK) to conduct urine tests on bus drivers. A total of 2,547 drivers were tested for drugs, with 26 testing positive. Authorities issued a total of 1,600 notices during the operation.

"The special operations' focus was on ensuring all tour and express buses were in safe condition and drivers had competent licences, with vehicles complying with all legal provisions," he said during a press briefing at the JPJ’s Gombak Enforcement Station.
The JPJ continues to focus on these areas with ongoing operations throughout the month.
