Hyundai Ioniq 6 N Prototype Spied Testing at Nurburgring
Rumours of Hyundai making an N-badged version of the Ioniq 6 EV saloon have been lurking for some time. After months of rumours and speculations, we’re finally getting some solid proof as a prototype version of the Ioniq 6 N was recently spotted doing some test runs at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife track.

The Ioniq 6 N in question was spotted testing on both wet and dry conditions, where the car was expectedly draped in a heavy camouflage wrap. Despite this, we still can see several key design chances this N-badged EV saloon carries over its vanilla twin, with the most notable addition being its GT-style rear wing.

Besides the massive rear wing, the Ioniq 6 N prototype can also be seen wearing a sportier body kit that comprises an aggressive front bumper that features bigger air intakes and split LED headlights. From the side, you can also see the prototype rolling on a sporty set of wheels with exposed spoke design, plus an N-badged red brake calliper hiding beneath them.

From the overall design, we can clearly see that the Ioniq 6 N will carry some design cues from its concept twin—the Hyundai RN22e—albeit in a less sporty and more road-legal manner.
As of now, Hyundai does not provide any details regarding the powertrain numbers of the new Ioniq 6 N. Given that the standard Ioniq 6 shares many of its components with the Ioniq 5 EV crossover hatch, perhaps we can expect the N version to get similar powertrain specs as the manic Ioniq 5 N hot-hatch.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N EV hot-hatch previewed in Malaysia earlier in Sept 2024.
For context, the Ioniq 5 N is powered by a dual-motor setup rated at up to 641 HP and 770 NM when the N Grin Boost mode is engaged, with the power sent to all wheels (AWD) via a unique 8-speed simulated transmission. Battery wise, the Ioniq 5 N is juiced by the same 84-kWh battery pack used on its newly-facelifted vanilla twin, granting this hot-hatch up to 448 KM of EV range (WLTP).
Should this be true, then the upcoming Ioniq 6 N will be the third model under the whole Hyundai Motor Group umbrella to get this trick manual transmission setup, with the upcoming Kia EV6 GT facelift set to get the same setup in the near future.

With Hyundai now busy running tests on the Ioniq 6 N, we can expect this high-performance EV saloon to make its global debut soon. Although the Korean marque didn’t give an exact timeline, word around the campfire suggested that the Ioniq 6 N will be ready for its global unveiling as early as next year.
