Honda Civic Type R Price Slashed To RM319,000 - How Will Early Buyers & Grey Importers React?
Honda Malaysia kicked off its latest "Unwrap Big Savings" campaign this week, offering enticing year-end deals across its entire line-up. This move aims to counter the Malaysian Automotive Association’s (MAA) prediction of a sales slowdown in 2024 and ensure a healthy sales volume.
One of the standout models put on promotion here is the latest FL5R-gen Honda Civic Type R. Officially launched in Sept 2023 at RM399,000, the Civic Type R initially saw early buyers subjected to a ballot or lottery-style purchase process. However, with the aggressive efforts of local grey importers offering almost-new ‘recond’ units for as low as RM275,000, the competitive landscape has dramatically shifted.
Now, thanks to Honda’s latest campaign, buyers can enjoy a staggering RM80,000 rebate, bringing the retail price of the officially imported - and warrantied - Civic Type R down to RM319,000. This competitive pricing is likely to force grey importers to lower their prices further, potentially dropping them below RM250,000 as they scramble to offload their stock and inventory.
This price drop, although for a limited time only, does pose a significant dilemma for early adopters who purchased the Civic Type R at the original RM399,000 price. The drastic price cut and the influx of cheaper grey imports could lead to substantial depreciation concerns for these buyers, driving down the resale value of their vehicles even further.
On the bright side, those who have held off on their bid to acquire the Civic Type R can now reap the rewards of their patience. Honda Malaysia's "Unwrap Big Savings" campaign runs throughout this month from Oct 1 to 31, 2024, presenting a golden opportunity to own this iconic and highly sought after performance vehicle at a much more accessible price.
So, if you’ve been eyeing a grey imported Civic Type R, now might be the perfect time to consider the officially imported model by Honda Malaysia instead. With these exceptional savings, you can own this coveted performance hot hatch with the added bonus of peace of mind stemming from the fact it has an official warranty.
