Three variants of the latest face-lifted 2024 Isuzu D-Max took part in Isuzu Malaysia's recent Dura Miles Challenge, and all were driven over 2,000 KM from Thailand to Malaysia on a single tank!

Isuzu Malaysia revealed earlier today that its recently refreshed D-Max pick-up truck offering has set a new record for the longest single-tank journey charted. More specifically, it earned its spot in the Malaysian Book of Records for the ‘Longest Distance Driven In A Pick-up Truck With A Single Tank Of Fuel’.

The feat was achieved during a recent edition of Isuzu Malaysia’s Dura Miles Challenge, which was devised to test the capabilities across three units of its D-Max pick-up truck model. Said challenge saw three different variants of the evergreen pick-up truck tested as well – a 1.9 4x2 AT Plus, a 1.9 4x4 AT Premium, and a 3.0 4x4 X-Terrain range-topper.

The challenge's journey began in the Thai township of Phitsanulok and concluded in Klang, Selangor.

Ahead of the journey, the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) official had sealed the tanks of all three units, and observed that no additional fuel was introduced throughout the journey, thus verifying the record-setting feat.

All were introduced locally earlier this year featuring mild styling tweaks, heightened list of features and amenities, as well as updated Euro 4 powertrains promising superior power delivery and fuel efficiency. For this recent challenge, the journey began from the Thai township of Phitsanulok and concluded in Klang, Selangor.

A quick check with Isuzu Malaysia also revealed all three units charted total distances of over 2,000 KM before either needed a top-up. Effectively, this record-setting drive saw all three trucks chart a fuel economy rates of roughly 3.8 litres/100 KM (26.316 KM/litre).

All three units - even the range-topping 3.0-litre X-Terrain - charted impressive fuel economy averages of at least 3.8 litres/100 KM during this record-setting drive.

Said record-smashing feat was witnessed and verified by a technical steward from the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM). Said official had previously sealed the fuel tanks and observed that the vehicles were driven throughout the journey without any introduction of additional fuel.

In contrast, a similar challenge done by Isuzu Malaysia previously using the pre-facelift model saw the D-Max set the previous record of 1,809 KM travelled on a single tank in a journey from Bangkok, Thailand to Singapore.

By journey's end, Isuzu Malaysia were recognised by both MAM and The Malaysian Book of Records for this record-smashing effort.

“While we do not expect every customer to drive their Isuzu vehicles 2,000 kilometres on a single tank of fuel, it clearly demonstrates the level of engineering that goes into every Isuzu vehicle to even make a feat of this magnitude a possibility,” expressed a delighted Isuzu Malaysia CEO Shunsuke Okazoe when receiving the trucks at their journey’s end point in Klang.

During which, the exec, along with Light Commercial Vehicle Division COO Kenkichi Sogo to receive the certificate of completion from MAM’s Secretary General S.N. Nanthan and Steward Muhd Siraj. Handed here too were the certificate of achievement from The Malaysian Book of Records’ officers Edwin Yeoh and Mohd Nazrul.
