High-Speed Weigh-In-Motion System To Be Completed Next Year

In response to Dr Halimah Ali (PN-Kapar), who wanted to know what steps would be taken to address road damage around ports, the transport ministry announced that a system to improve enforcement on overloaded heavy vehicles is being developed and is expected to be completed early next year.
The ministry claims that enforcement against heavy vehicles might be carried out in real-time without the vehicle stopping for weighing thanks to the high-speed-weigh in motion (HS-WIM) system. In a written response sent to parliament, it stated that "increasing the efficiency of enforcement on vehicle loads through the system will reduce road damage and the risk of accidents."

According to the transport ministry, the road transport department (JPJ) is taking action and regularly examining ways to stop damaged roads, which are caused by a number of factors, including overloaded heavy vehicles.

The ministry responded that road maintenance projects were also funded by the port authority's matching grant when asked about the steps the Port Klang Authority had taken to alleviate traffic congestion near Northport due to the rise in ro-ro (roll-on, roll-off) cargo and heavy vehicles. It also mentioned that eight road segments were set to be completed by the end of this year.
