Petrol-696x443.jpeg As a long-term initiative to improve national air quality, Malaysia will roll out Euro 5 petrol in September 2025, according to Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. Full implementation is anticipated by 2027 and will comply with the Environmental Quality (Control of Petrol and Diesel Fuel Contents) Regulations 2007, Utusan Malaysia has reported.
“The adoption of Euro 5 petrol is a sustainable solution that will positively impact Malaysia’s air quality. The NRES and the Department of Environment (DOE) will work closely with industry players to ensure a seamless transition,” NIk Nazmi was quoted as saying.
The switch to Euro 5 gasoline, which was gazetted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in 2015 and is scheduled to be implemented at gas stations by September 1, 2025, is anticipated to spur improvements in the local automotive industry, particularly in the heavy and commercial sectors where modern vehicle technology is crucial.

The quality of Euro 5 gasoline will also meet new standards for lead and sulphur, Nik Nazmi added. The remaining minimum requirements for Euro 5 gasoline, including oxygen content, benzene, olefins, aromatics, Reid Vapour pressure, and more, will be implemented gradually over the course of 2026 and 2027.
