Negeri Sembilan Committed To Expand EV Charging Infra

The Negeri Sembilan government has reaffirmed its commitment to expand its electric vehicle charging bays (EVCBs) facility in line with the federal government’s target of 10,000 bays nationwide by 2025.
Arul Kumar, chairman of Negeri Sembilan's State Housing, Local Government Development, and Transportation Committee, stated that the Negeri Sembilan Town and Country Planning Department (JPBDNS) has submitted the EVCB Planning Guidelines during the State Planning Committee Meeting on Dec 19, 2023.
These guidelines seek to simplify the approval and installation of EVCBs in order to guarantee secure, accessible EV charging infrastructure at important sites. Furthermore, as part of the Negeri Sembilan Structure Plan 2045, the agency is incorporating EV infrastructure development into larger public transit plans.

However, despite these efforts, we do find progress has been rather slow, with just 92 EV chargers found in Negeri Sembilan based on the MEVNet dashboard data. This consists of 45 AC chargers and 47 DC charges across 39 sites in the state which is far below the target of 300 charging points.
While the guidelines and announcements reflect a strong intent, the state must accelerate implementation to meet its goals and boost the EV ecosystem effectively.
