Bukit_Bintang_Junction_in_2023.jpg The authorities are considering the possibility of closing off a major section of Jalan Bukit Bintang in order to alleviate the heavy traffic in the area. The Star reported that the proposal comes as police monitor Bukit Bintang's main thoroughfare, which connects Jalan Pudu to the intersection of a well-known shopping mall, for excessive traffic and traffic bottlenecks during rush hour.

According to Kuala Lumpur police head Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, talks and additional research are presently being conducted about limiting and rerouting traffic in Bukit Bintang.
"We are considering redirecting and completely closing vehicle access to this area, turning it into a pedestrian zone.

"I believe if we implement this with clear communication to the public and relevant parties, this proposal can be considered. We can test it out first," he said.

Several reasons for congestion in the area have been identified, including unlawful parking, pedestrian crossings at unapproved locations, and taxi/ride-hailing cars stopping to pick up or drop off passengers, according to Rusdi.
In order to keep an eye on the area and remotely enforce traffic laws, the police also plan to set up and utilise more closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras with AI capabilities.

Currently, integrated traffic operations are undertaken regularly in Bukit Bintang, focussing on traffic violations and obstructive cars, with the most recent targeting intersections at Jalan Imbi and Sultan Ismail. Since December 13, more than 1,500 summonses have been issued, and 36 vehicles have been impounded, Rusli added. Untitled-design---2024-12-30T153235.993.png
