Lamborghini's First EV Delayed Until 2029
If you were hoping for a quick launch of the all-electric Lamborghini, you will have to wait another year. Lamborghini boss, Stephan Winkelmann informed Reuters that the electrified Lamborghini would not be ready until 2029.
According to a Reuters article, Winkelmann spoke with employees at the company’s headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese and said, “We do not think 2029 is late to have an electric car. We do not think that, in our segment, the market will be ready in 2025 or 2026.”
Touted as the first-ever Lamborghini electric vehicle, the aggressive-looking Lanzador is said to have two electric motors, one on each axle, with a maximum horsepower of more than one megawatt, or more than 1341 horsepower. All-wheel drive will also be standard.
Additionally, according to Lamborghini, the electric motor installed on the back axle can help with handling during cornering by simulating a limited-slip differential. As the Lanzador gets closer to production, the concept car's high-riding pseudo-off-road capabilities may change. Alternatively, it might continue to be a high-riding car and go after competitors like the Porsche 911 Dakar.
Its design also crosses the boundaries between crossover and classic coupe, and it even appears to take some cues from the Huracán Sterrato. It appears that this high-round-clearance coupe is prepared to dominate a rally track.
A number of automakers have changed their goals for electrification in the past year. Companies like Volvo, Bentley, Ford, and others are being forced to reevaluate their plans and reschedule their launches due to slowing growth, including Lamborghini.
