The five-vehicle collision that killed seven people, including five family members, occurred last night at KM 204 of the North-South Expressway northbound, close to the Ayer Keroh rest and service area, and was caused by a detached lorry tyre, according to Alor Gajah police chief Ashari Abu Samah.

According to earlier reports, the tragedy claimed seven lives and injured 33. A baby girl, three women, and three men were among the deceased. 10 injured victims were transported to Alor Gajah Hospital, six to Hospital Pantai Ayer Keroh, and 17 to Melaka Hospital. 471474020_2640830249451376_7611070593986852975_n.jpg

The fatal collision which involved a truck, a tour bus carrying 27 people heading south, and three vehicles heading north—a Toyota Estima MPV, a Nissan trailer, and a Perodua Bezza—started when the truck's front right tyre, which was being driven by a 31-year-old man, came loose and landed in the middle lane.

“The tour bus then struck the detached tyre, causing the driver to lose control and swerve into the opposite lane. While veering into the oncoming lane, the bus collided with the trailer, driven by a 27-year-old man accompanied by a 16-year-old co-driver

“The collision caused the trailer to swerve into the left lane. It crashed into the road barrier before hitting the Perodua Bezza and the Toyota Estima,” he was quoted as saying in a Sinar Harian report.

The vehicles involved have been seized for inspection by Puspakom, while the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. 471425935_995986869243274_4541916983446261321_n.jpg471475577_2640830292784705_8508038946905421173_n.jpg
