Previewed: Perodua eMO-II Concept – 410 KM Range, 50-kWh CATL LFP Battery

Perodua has previewed the second version of its first all-electric concept, now known as the Perodua EMO-II.
Making its first public appearance at the ongoing Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024 is the much-anticipated Perodua eMO-II concept. This is essentially the near-production version of the EMO-1 concept shown earlier this year at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (MAS 2024).

On the design front, the EMO-II seems to closely resemble the eMO scale model revealed during the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 (MAS 2023), albeit featuring a more aggressive and sporty design in the same compact hatch bodystyle. Dimension-wise, the eMO-II is roughly the same size as the ongoing Perodua Myvi, although Perodua did mention that the actual production model will be about 2-3% smaller than the current concept model, so we’re looking at A- to B-segment hatchback size here.

Some key design cues primed here include the X-shaped front bumper with an illuminated LED grille and full-width DRL, an illuminated Perodua logo, partially-enclosed wheels, frameless doors with hidden door handles, and digital side-view cameras. Things were also quite aggressive at the rear, as the eMO-II gets a rakish rear windscreen with a roof-mounted rear spoiler, aggressive rear bumper accents with faux diffusers, and pixelated LED taillights with a full-width LED strip.

As per any other concept models, the eMO-II gets a pretty stripped-down interior, primed with tons of sophisticated design touches that are meant to preview what we can expect from the second national automaker’s first EV model. Some key features present here include the two-spoke steering wheel, an expansive digital metre cluster, bucket-style seats for both front and rear passengers, a slew of digital panels for climate and infotainment controls, illuminated eMO-II door cards, and many more.

Perhaps the juiciest details revealed by P2 today are on the eMO-II’s powertrain setup. Although not as technical or detailed as what we anticipated, Perodua President & CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad revealed that initial specs for the eMO-II include a 0-100 KM/H sprint finish between six to seven seconds, as well as a maximum EV range of up to 410 KM, which is granted by its 50-kWh LFP-type battery pack sourced from CATL.
While most of its electric drive components and battery pack will be sourced and imported, Perodua plans to assemble some of these components in-house once the eMO-II goes into production. With that being said, P2 did confirm that the production version of the eMO-II concept will feature an entirely different nameplate.

Additionally, the production version of the eMO-II will also be manufactured at a dedicated production facility, although no further details were given regarding this matter. As for pricing, Perodua is still keeping up with its promises to make their first EV model an affordable one, with the production version of the eMO-II will be priced between RM50,000 to RM90,000. Should this be true, then perhaps Proton might consider adjusting the pricing strategy for its upcoming EV model, the Proton eMas 7, which is slapped with an estimated pricing of RM120,000.
