PRO-NET and EVC to Roll Out EV Chargers Across 170 Condominiums

PRO-NET, Proton’s EV subsidiary, and EV Connection (EVC), operator of the JomCharge EV charging network, have launched the ‘PRONET-EVC Condominium EV Charging Infrastructure Programme.’ This initiative focuses on providing affordable and accessible EV charging facilities for condominium residents, especially those in high-rise buildings, to support Malaysia’s growing EV adoption.
Under this initiative PRO-NET and EVC will:
1. Setup New Chargers for 100 Condominiums:
- EVC will fund EV charger installations at 100 condominiums currently lacking such facilities.
- Condominiums can apply via the EVC website, with successful applicants receiving a free package covering EV chargers, Infrastructure setup, Compliance costs, Charger management system and Integration with the JomCharge network
- Condos will also benefit from a profit-sharing mechanism through this program.
2. Support Existing Charging Points:
- Around 70 condominiums already on the JomCharge network will benefit from competitive charging rates.

Additionally, new condominiums will enjoy rates as low as RM 0.70/kWh down 30% from the standard rate of RM1.00/kWh. Also starting January 2025, Proton e.Mas 7 owners will receive an additional 10% discount, reducing the rate to RM 0.63/kWh - comparable to residential electricity tariffs for landed properties. This discount also applies to time-based charging rates at existing condominiums.
The program is open to condominiums with existing charging facilities from other Charge Point Operators (CPOs), recognizing the anticipated surge in EV usage after the Proton e.Mas 7 launch. There is no end date set for the discounted charging rate campaign.

According to EVC, the “PRONET-EVC Condominium EV Charging Infrastructure Programme” is also open to condominiums that already have EV charging facilities from other CPOs as more chargers will be needed to cater to the expected surge in user post e.MAS 7 launch. They also added, for the time being there is no end date for the discounted charging rate campaign.

PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang highlighted the importance of convenient charging facilities to encourage EV adoption. He stated that this programme would eliminate barriers for Malaysians transitioning to EVs. Meanwhile, EVC Managing Director Ir. Lee Yuen How emphasized the partnership’s role in growing the charging infrastructure while keeping costs affordable for condo dwellers.
The collaboration has already seen success, with EVC installing over 400 home chargers for Smart EV owners and managing 600 charging points in Malaysia while facilitating 2,000 charging sessions since the launch of Smart EVs.
